A loyal reader, who apparently doesn’t realize Hip Hop is dead, wrote:
Sandra as a woman I am offended that this is all Kanye West, the director, could come up with for one of the hottest songs of the summer. He should be ashamed of this depiction of females. This video in a nutshell basically says a woman’s beauty is defined by how big her boobs are and light her skin is. And Kanye being a black man raised by black parents and Drake being bi-raicial (half black and half white) why are they only showcasing ALL Hispanic girls in this video? I don’t get it, they couldn’t get ONE pretty chocolate sister up in the video like Lanisha Cole, Jessica White, or Natasha Ellie to be in the video alongside the Hispanic girls? Why is it the black men have a problem showcasing their beautiful black sisters? You never see all non-white models in popular White rock artists videos. Only with black rappers does this occur. Drake’s career is slowly but surely going down the tube especially after this video gets out on tv. EPIC FAIL on both Drake and Kanye’s part. You have failed your own women and race by this video please be ashamed.
Morning Fam!
I just read comments on another site tearing this video to shreds and NOT one comment referenced color. Most people did NOT like the video period but it wasn’t due to the color of the girls. Interesting
5 4 3 2 1…………
Still team Ye!
i cant see the video but didnt u post the lead girl to the video on this site sandra? the medical school student/video chic…. was she not in this video?
my friend wanted to know that the video had to do with the song, now i cant wait to see this
I DONT GET all the HYPE about this DUDE….WHAT do you expect to see…its a hip hop video…look who he associates with…cash money..lil wayne…I anit disappointed at all…THE WHOLE VIDEO SHOULD HAVE FEATUED TREY SONGZ….LOL….THAT WOULD BE HOT FIRE….
he SHOULD have had OMGgirls IN IT!!! THAT WOULD have been HOT! lol
This video is so NSFW. All you see is bubbies (as the NJ Housewives say) bouncing WTF?
UHHHH THIS VIDEO SUCKS JUST AS MUCH AS DRAKE’S CARTOON LOOKING AZZ HAND MOVEMENTS….
I watched the video and it is a typical hip hop video however this video did contain some black girls not sure what your reader was watching.
yeah I saw at least one brown skinned girl
yea the video is wack cause it has nothing to with the song and it should be called “Breast I ever had” its a wack vid..im im starting to thing Drake is realy slow, he has to stop the wrist thing SMH…. i liked Drake a few years ago Comeback season? FIRE…. now he’s with lil wayne i think hes gonna dumb down
Further still Drake is mixed he is not obligated to have “dark” skin girls in the vid when he’s half Jewish ..just saying
HEY SNOOTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On the opposing team there was more than one brown girl….
Not sure why this is even about race. Everyone on Drake’s Team was not hispanic there was one black girl on his team and on the other team there were several….
@Yana the NJ wives killed me with bubbies..lol That was funny
yea his comeback season was nice too! his album better be classic if hes doing mixtaps like that
Hey Daisy…
I thought a person could put whomever they want in thier video… Hence the word “their”
BLACK WOMEN STOP BEING SO CONCERNED WITH THE MASSES, ESPECIALLY BLACK MEN AS A WHOLE, IF HE’S NOT YOUR HUSBAND, SON, OR FAMILY MEMBER-BASICALLY DOESN’T IMPACT YOUR LIFE IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER FUG EM
YEP=THAT’S MY MOTTO, I’M SO SICK AND TIRED OF CONCERNING MYSELF IN GENERAL WITH BLACK MEN AS A WHOLE, AND FOR ME IF THE MOFO DOESN’T AFFECT MY LIFE IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM FUG HIM AND HIS LIKES, DISLIKES, OPINIONS ETC.
TRUST ME, MOST BLACK MEN COULD CARE LESS ABOUT WHAT WE THINK OF THEM WHEN THEY DO STUFF LIKE THIS…….STOP FEEDING INTO THE HYPE OF “ANGRY BLACK WOMAN” OR “VICTIM” AND LIVE YOUR LIFE-THESE SIMPLETON ARSE NICCAS SHOULDN’T EVEN WARRANT A RESPONSE FOR ALL THEIR BAFOONERY
MY ANSWER TO THIS IS IF THAT’S WHAT HE LIKES GOOD FOR HIM, I AINT A LSLH PUERTO RICAN CHICK-SO HE CAN’T DO NOTHING FOR ME AND VICE VERSA
I like the song but I’m not feeling the video. The hype with Drake is his rapper/singer ability. Dudes are feeling him too! He hasn’t grown on me yet but what light skin man has…to me, they been out of style since the late 80s early 90s and still can’t come back…
Their
This video just sucked period. I wish I could have that 5 minutes of my life back. The color of the girls had nothing to do with it. The video does not match the song which I like a lot.
@Snooty what has been going on girl
I am NOT a Drake fan don’t see the HYPE and he isnt the best singer or the 1st rapper to do the singing thing on songs either
Shunda that is why I did NOT watch the video..lol
@Daisy I am great thanks for asking. I have been working hard at work hanging out just enjoying my life and yourself
I saw on another blog where Drake said he had his vision for the video to be all hard and match the lyrics somewhat but that Kanyes ‘vision’ for the video is what you see and since Drake felt since Kanye was the vet and creative he should go along with it
The bouncy breasts action was too much for me! I don’t think we’ll be seeing this on BET or MTV because it is a bit much for mainstream, unless it is edited or there are two versions. The song is actually a good ode to a woman who has been holding it down for her man regardless of money or fame. The video did not do the song justice at all!! Damn Drizzy, you fuxxing up early!
@Snooty work and school that’s all. Going to NO for the essence festival and can’t wait!!!
@SnootyPooty1:
Yes there were black girls on the opposing team, but they were made to look “butch” and less attractive, especially when they were walking in. To a child who doesn’t know any better, that contrast says to them that pretty light skin girls with nice bodies just need to rely on their looks and dark skin people need to hone the talents they do have because they don’t have their looks to fall back on.
There are messages in media and children (of any race) are the ones most susceptible to them. And I just know someone is going to say that we people need to control what their kids watch, but you cant control their whole environment for their whole lives. IMO the best thing to do is watch these questionable videos with your child and explain to them that the images they are seeing are negative. Ignorance is bliss but it’s not a recipe for a well-adjusted child.
I wish someone would go on TV and say “Kanye West does not care about black women.” — That would be hilarious karma
A hip hop music video sucks? What else is really new? Aren’t they giving you the formulaic 3/4 nekkid chicks, followed by some shots of the “artist” solo & with his boys and followed by the “artist” gawking and *the bonus* being rubbed down by said 3/4 nekkid chicks? What the problem is?
@Wiggy
Well Drake needs to be independent and go with his own ideas. He actually has a nice mixtape but this video screams do over, try again, fix this ish need I say more.
Team YE!! Anybody see where Kanye and Amber are now known as Kamber how cute..lol
@ Karaz
Now you have me searching for a video that doesn’t do that lol
good luck with that search shunda, that’s the degenerate crap these artists, record companies and VIACOM have been force feeding us for the past 10 years; sometime they’ll trow in a comedian or some weak dialogue, but it’s the same ish in a different toilet.
Not even going to click on the link for video. I like this song and thought it was some what empowering. However, from what I see on your page Sandra it looks downright degrading. This was his chance to create his own lane in the industry and not follow the trends. What a waste!!!!!!

I don’t even care anymore, if thats their only definition of beauty thats their problem. Its their loss anyway…besides just like they don’t have to feel obligated to show love to more than one shade of beauty, I don’t have to feel obligated to buy their shyt…and I don’t, so everybody wins. Drake and Kanye can keep their CD’s….Im not gonna miss out on anything by not purchasing their shyt, and Im sure they won’t miss out on my lil ol’ $10 – $15 contribution. Simple as that.
Darnit Karaz. I can’t find one lol. I give credit where credit is due and you are right.
It’s just a video! The content should not define who you are. You still like the song and you’ll still turn the volume up and sing the words. The video is geared toward men, not women. It was pretty funny to me. LOL @ Drake all you taught us to do is stretch!
When was the last time someone spent money on a CD anyway? Most people just get a copy from someone else or download it from some illegal site.
@Shannon I still BUY cds..lol I bought Ginuwine last week and will buy Maxwell on Tues.
@Krysi I will still support Ye love him and his music.lol
If this one video shapes your childs mind, thoughts and goals. Then I guess as parents we have deeper issues because there is a lot more going on in the schools and with their friends.
I’m a dark skinned female and I don’t give a f!ck what a rapper defines as beauty or the black men who feel that a dark skinned woman is less attractive than a light skinned female. It’s their loss.
I mean why is the video a shocker? When is the last time you saw a dark skinned female in a video on a regular>? The last thing that comes to my mind is Nelly’s videos. I will say he was balanced.
I find it hilarious and somewhat sad that rapper/singers who are darker than most dark skinned women themselves define beauty by skin tone and how far a weave hangs down your back. Again, it’s their loss. They don’t want me and I don’t want their azz. We’re even.
Oh and everybody on this Nicki girl’s tip she sounds slow and special like Mase little sister NOT the business..lol As far as her flow it was aiight.
@shannon
I dont do bootlegs cds, I still buy cds the last one i purchase was keri hilson and chrisette michele so people still buy cds and the drake video was stupid
@daisy i love her Ny swag she is so sexy lol
I still haven’t heard anything from Nicky. I have to hear something before I give her my thumbs up or down.
I honestly don’t get why Drake’s hype is so big already myself. The Best I Ever Had is an o.k song but like Ever Girl it immediately gets turned from if it comes on the radio because I’m sick of hearing it. I need to hear more from him.
@Yanaja
LMAO
Krysi J tell em girl..thats what I’m talking about…
PERSONALLY, I THINK JACKI-O WOULD GV NICKI MINAJ A RUN FOR THE MONEY. IMO
LOL @ DAISY… MASE BEING SLOWWWWWWWW…. I HEARD ON THE RADIO YESTERDAY THAT HE REMIXED DRAKE’S SONG!!!!! HUH?????
AND IF WHAT KIDS SAW ON TV really didnt effect them…HOW THE HELL DO YOU EXPLAIN ALL THE LITTLE BLACK GIRLS PICKING WHITE DOLLS…THAT WAS ON THE NEWS A FEW MONTHS AGO…I SWEAR YALL DONT THINK SOMETIMES…
UHH.. WHY MY COMMENT IN MODERATION AUNTIE… LMAO
PERSONALLY, I THINK JACKI-O WOULD GV NICKI MINAJ A RUN FOR THE MONEY. IMO
LOL @ DAISY… MASE BEING SLOW…. I HEARD ON THE RADIO YESTERDAY THAT HE REMIXED DRAKE’S SONG!!!!! HUH?????
I never said kids were not affected by what they see on TV I am referring to videos. My daughter dont watch this type of stuff and I monitor what she can watch on TV.
DOnt blame the kids blame the parents…. We as parents have to be careful and not expose our children to anything.
@Daisy have fun…I just came back from a 10 vacay….
Nicky/Niki can still win me over if I can get past that annoying flow she has. She sounds slow and special..lol
@Blk Yes I heard Mase on the remix and I just knew he was going to be rapping about JESUS being the BEST, boy was I wrong..lol
so Mase has left the Lord again for rap?
the video sucked but it think it was being more sarcasm in the video than anything with the exaggerated bouncing titties any such and the supposedly pretty girls who cant even play ball. if anything its saying they cant get by on there looks alone and pretty women should be offended lol
take that ‘D,’ as in take the dyck? awful video. stick to making beats kanye, or sign up for course in filmmaking for real. another example of music artists not taking the craft or art serious–thinking they can just show up and do it. like acting. uh uh EPIC FAIL.
he could’ve kept it simple, do a walk in the park type video vibe and maybe some other scenes getting at how women will make u work for it and u jumpin thru so many hoops, etc. this video is wack. im starting to believe he just pulled out his check book, went for the big names, and signed away any and all publishing just to get put on. there is not hype about this guy. payola is all this is when i hear and see his name. he so effin hot you got top billers (i know, right) willing to work with him. bullshyyt. payola.
yes, mase has been inspired by michael jackson to return to rap. WWJD.
When was the last time someone spent money on a CD anyway? Most people just get a copy from someone else or download it from some illegal site.
———————————————————–
I still buy CD’s….I ain really worried bout what other people do, all I know is…DRAKE has been scratched off the list and so has Kanye. They’re not concerned, Im not either. I’ll give all my money to the R&B singers and cut all deez fukking rappers off in a minute.
from drake:
The concept of the video is, I’m a coach at a high school and the girls of my life are all on my high school basketball team. Throughout the video you see us prepping for this big championship game, and my team ends up losing. You see the looks on their faces at the end of the video, but the moral of the story, I guess, is win or lose, you can still be the best to somebody. When women see the video and see all the breast and ass, hopefully they don’t take offense. Hopefully they see the real meaning.
NEXT!
LMBAO @ WWJD!!!!!!!!!!
I guess, is win or lose, you can still be the best to somebody. When women see the video and see all the breast and ass, hopefully they don’t take offense. Hopefully they see the real meaning.
———————————————————
What he meant was win or lose as long as you have LSLH (since they’re all on the same team) you can still be the best to somebody. Cool I get it.
kick rocks.
HEY DRAKE…take a short walk off a long pier…dude…you so wack yo…. that response was wack…
Love the song can’t watch the clip cause I’m at work. I also don’t understand what you all were expecting. it’s a music video leave it at that. Why do we put so much into what musicians and ball players are doing and thinking just kills me. They aren’t paying my bills or sharing they’re wealth. I could give a rats ass what they think is beautiful.
I make it a point to make sure both of my children (boy and a girl) know they are not only beautiful but also intelligent. I don’t want them puting their value in a rappers hands. They’re value is in my hands and the Lord’s hands and they’re own hands. They’re value also has more to with whats on the inside vs. the outisde.
Can’t stand a pretty dumbass.
I don’t care about the video’s “message” and I damn sure am not counting the number of LSLH chicks vs. the number of “sistahs” – As a male, I don’t CARE. T&A is T&A.
What I care about is a good concept and follow through for a video. A video is supposed to compliment the song – we’ve all heard of situations where the VIDEO actually helped you like the song MORE. This video did the EXACT OPPOSITE.
And so what if the video is T&A? There have been PLENTY of T&A videos that were still GOOD VIDEOS: “Rump Shaker” (probably the first), “Cherchez La Ghost,” or “Big Pimpin’.”
People are just disappointed because this video is NOT good. And while we know it wasn’t his fault – Drake not being able to perform to the best of his ability at the BET Awards (due to a torn ACL I believe) hasn’t made this the best week for him….
Drake talks BET awards to Complex MAG
Complex: At the BET Awards this past Sunday, everyone was shocked to see you sitting on a stool. Did you ever think to yourself, Maybe I shouldn’t perform?
Drake: That, actually—to be honest—was a terrible idea that I’ll never do to myself again. [Laughs] But I was being pressed from different areas to perform, and I think what really happened at the BET Awards is with the passing of Mike, the climate really changed, as far as the award show goes. I don’t think it called for us to perform “Every Girl” and “Always Strapped,” and I think it was an award show filled with tributes and music and these genuine heartfelt speeches. And to sort of climax out of a very tongue-in-cheek point, and then people misconstruing Wayne’s daughters and her friends coming out on stage…
Complex: Yeah, it really was an awkward moment.
Drake: Yeah, it was just timed very poorly and it definitely wasn’t planned like that, but with that being said, it is what is. I believe in Wayne and myself and it’s nothing we can’t bounce back from. To anyone who was offended, my personal apologies, it wasn’t intended to offend anybody.
Complex: Watching it at home, the BET Awards seemed to be a mess. Did it seem that way in person?
Drake: Well, I can only speak for my portion of it. I had asked for something very specific for my performance and none of those were met, as far as production value, so…
Complex: That’s BET for you…
Drake: I understood my situation, as far as sitting in one place, and figured there was a way to make it interesting. But when I looked around and noticed that none of that was going on [laughs], I kind of just realized that it was going to be a loss for me. But at the end of the day, it is what it is.
@Daisy #51
I’ve heard a few things from Nicki and it’s horrible and she does remind me of Baby Stace. LOL! She reminds me of how Trina came in the game with no talent but because she’s sexual, has a pretty face and claims to be bisexual guys love her. Remember the verse in “Nann” when Trina said something like “I’ll let another b!tch straight lick the clit” but later said she wasn’t bisexual that’s the same mess Nicki pulled. She’s imitating Lil Kim’s squat pose with a sucker in her mouth. I’m not buying her at all. She’s going to need more people.
Ok the reader said “He should be ashamed of this depiction of females” but then in the next sentence she/he is wondering why no dark skin women are in the video shaking their asses like the spanish girls. am i missing something? What is wrong with this post?
