Hard core fans of R&B Diva Monica are complaining bitterly online and via emails that Monica’s CD, Still Standing, is sold out everywhere they go. One fan wrote:
Here in Houston we are having trouble getting Monica CD’s. Best Buy only had 12-30 on the first day and they don’t get another shipment til next Tuesday. Target only had 80 copies. Needless to say all Monica CD were sold out by noon yesterday. I think that this was done on purpose and I’m a little pissed about it. They don’t want her numbers to look good in the first week. This is how they do real R&B.

Mo’s fans have long complained that J Records does not support Monica. And there are rumors that monies designated for Mo’s CD budget were reallocated to other artists projects on the label. The artists are always told how many albums will be shipped in advance.
There are also unsubstantiated rumors that J Records refused requests from Monica’s camp to ship more albums to the stores. The label’s refusal prompted Monica to tweet a request to fans asking them to bombard a J Records exec Twitter account.
Although the rumors of J Records sabotage efforts are unconfirmed, the lack of Monica’s CDs on store shelves (and fans unable to find the CD) tells the real story.

I went to Target when igot off yesterday and they were sold out and went to WalMart and bought the last one
thought I was the only one whose ankles were too skinny to fill ankle booties! … (got my copy from the CDMAN…sorry..just don’t feel like wasting the gas driving to Target to find it’s not there…)

I went to a Target in a mostly YT area, and they had about 10 copies left. I got two of those. But I am sure that was only business of the area I was in, all the inner city stores were sold out from what I hear.

My friends have said that it’s sold out in a lot of stores in Memphis. Didn’t know it was happening other places too.
I went to best buy and target and they didn’t have any. I thought it just showed that her label wasn’t to confident about the project being they didn’t put many out.
I wonder if Usher will have this problem next week (I will get the bootleg if anything)

@ Brown I went to Target and they were sold out @ 10:50am. I then walked down to Best Buy and the had 8 copies left, so f anyone you know is still looking have them try Best Buy. Love Monica’a whole out fit, but I’m not feeling her hair.

All I wanna know is why J Records put Monica on a ten song cap, when Alicia Keys, Leona Lewis and Mario, all other J Record artists got over 10 songs on their most recent releases! Wow…I didn’t know people still purchased CD’s! Lol. In the very rare instances that I pay for music (usually old stuff I can’t pay for free) I download it not buy CD’s…there are a lot of free music download sites out here…now I see who is still keeping the industry going lol
For those who say her cd aint sellin….how about it sold 70,000 copies in ONE DAY! POW! The label is shipping out more cds as we type…Furthermore, the label only ships what RETAILERS ORDER!!!!!!!! I would like to add, I bought Monica’s cd on the strength of who she is and to support her because I like her as an artist. I could have bootlegged it, hustle man been had the cd. Just like Sade came back after a long break and did big numbers based on her being Sade I feel Monica should have that same chance. So to all that can’t find it, just wait and then call ahead to see if it’s in before you go back. If you downloaded it, #noshade if you don’t plan on listening #noshade but don’t knock those that want to support Monica. Team Monica
I won’t say they intentionally sabotaged her, but they clearly underestimated her which caused them to view her as less than top priority. First they release her single without a bridge then have to go back and “fix” it after they see the virtual snippet of a song was wildly popular. Now it seems they have not released enough copies of the album. They want to make money, but they didn’t think they would. Now maybe they will send out more in the next shipment. They did the same to Corinne Bailey Rae. I had to pick up her album on a run to Virginia because I couldn’t find it in Charlotte. And they didn’t even have the decency to put it in a plastic jewel case. The cover is paper! These labels are a mess. The reason Sade sold so much of what I hear is a mediocre album is because they shipped a trillion of them.

i went to 3 best buys, 3 targets, and 3 walmarts(who even buys cds from there?) none had it. i think its a problem of under shipping definitely. far as the 10 songs most labels only pay royalties for 10 songs some up to 12 but dont matter how many songs on your album you only getting royalties for whatever they paying so 10-12 is actually a good number. if you notice most cds that people deem classic fall in the 10 song range. i dont think J records did a good job or targeting her key markets like they should be a lot of her cds in her hometown so undershipping to atlanta is shooting yourself in the foot when you in the business to make money and you dont correct target her biggest market

And yes, the cd is all over the “inna net” for people to download for free, but people actually want to purchase it in support. By doing that it sends a message to Monica that states we appreciate her voice, her effort and her music. To the label it means that she has a supportive fanbase and they should continue to allow her to put out music.
Sure, people can download any cd they want to, or buy bootleg. But many fans understand by doing this, it really hurts the artist. Many fans of artists such as Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Susan Boyle don’t do this. and that’s why they can sell well.

Monica gave an interview and indicated that J Records instituted a 10 song cap for all artists on the roster. She said she was doing bonus tracks to give the fans more.
She just had a highly successful tv show, she was featured the hugely popular single “Trust” with Keyshia Cole and “Everything To Me” is her 6th top 10 R&B single. Why is J Records sleeping?!?!?!?!?

some people like to have physical media they can do anything with. you buy the cd you can rip it to itunes and have it on your ipod plus have the physical cd and you can in turn give somebody a copy or let them use the cd to rip to their itunes you can do that when u buy directly from itunes

I think she should get out of her deal and go indie. She’s one of those artists who would probably do better on her on. Eric Roberson comes to mind. He stay selling out shows and he puts out what he wants to on his own label.

because people still prefer physical cds over digital media. sure its convenient but people still like to be able to do what they want with their music, make copies, put it on there ipod whatever and most digital music has DRM which prohibits you doing what you want to with something you bought

As for Monica’s CD I listened to the tracks for this CD on Youtube it wasn’t something I would buy but some of the songs sounded ok.

Monica resigned her deal with the label in 2007 BEFORE all the crap u named happened. And like I said, its industry standard for cds to have a ten song cap now. Does that mean EVERY album will have that? No…DUH!! But lets not turn this into a J Records doing Monica dirty pity party either.
Bottom line is, as big of a Monica stan I am, I know the facts. The facts are Monica’s last cd sold poorly. Only produced one hit. That was 4 years ago…which is damn near 10 yrs in music bizness years…lol…After The Storm went platinum 7 years ago. Monica is not always in public eye. There are several factors to why Monica isnt top priority on that label. As a fan, it sucks. But as a businessman, I see why. But all thats about to change. She is back with a vengence and more focused than ever. Judging from her first week sales prediction, Monica is off to a gr8 comeback!!! My girl is Still Standing….standing….whos mad? As Eastpointvet so eloquently put it, I prefer the physical cd because I can do more things with it. I ripped the cd to my work computer this morning. I can’t do that with an itunes download. Also, I love looking at the cd booklet, etc.
I went to my local Walmart in Valley Stream, NY and picked up four copies for myself.

folks still buying CDs? Folks arent buying CDs thats why the music retailers have all closed down. Target and Walmart shelves are always bare. Folks should be able to buy music at more than just 3 places in their town. Circuit City has closed so basically Americans are stuck buying CDs from 3 places-Target,Best Buy and Walmart.
Personally I prefer Amazon. Itunes sucks

This makes perfect sense. Mo’s CD was sold out here by noon as well and I live in the Midwest. All Targets and Best Buy were sold out within an hour radius. This has never ever happened in all my music buying years. Lucky I was able to call in a favor at a store and get a copy held to the side. But, I wanted to buy a few copies.
Walmart and Target were sold out…so I went to trusty old iTunes and downloaded it. Thank God for mp3…you cant sabotage that!

brownsugapoet, #95 and 102–just last month, I was all on google and youtube for several hours trying to find that song and the person who sang it. I couldn’t remember for the life of me who it was, lol. I knew some of the lyrics and I could remember pieces of the video, but just couldn’t place the person and all that kept popping up was Deborah Cox and Kelly Price’s song when I searched. Anyway, now I know
I got it Tuesday on my lunch break at Best buy…it was like 11:30 AM but it was only 3 left in the store. I wish it had more than 10 songs but every song is GOOD! I love it and I haven’t taken it out my CD player in my car yet! I love “If you were my man”, “Love all over me”, “Superman” and “One in a lifetime” the most. I admit I am a huge Monica fan! I don’t purchase CD’s that often but I have always supported Monica! Love her music. She’s far from a has been. Do you really think some of these artist out now will be here in 15 years?
Let me stop, cuz Im sounding like someone on this site who acts like the celebs pay them for being a stan…

Wow, why all the hate on Monica callin’ her a hasbeen or whatever?! Taking a few years off is a kiss of death for some artist, but if you are mad talented like Mo’ and Usher, your true fans will push you back to the top.
Also, re JRecords, Mo’ didn’t go at them like Fantasia did! On her show she seemed unsure when she presented it and so did they execs after listening to it, but ‘Tasia was like, this album is fyre and I know y’all gone like it! And they loved it. Let’s see how they promote her when her album drops!
