R&B legend Stacey Lattisaw spoke out yesterday on Erykah Badu’s controversial PR stunt, street strip tease video for which she was charged with indecent exposure.
Somebody on Erykah’s level needed to talk some sense to her since she is surrounded by nothing but yes men (and women) who allow her to continuously make a fool out of herself!
For you young heads who aren’t familiar with Stacey, click here (she was only 13).

Anywhoo…Stacy posted this on her Facebook…who else could she be speaking of except Badu who’s been charged with exposing herself? Below is her post and her post in her comments.
Stacy Lattisaw: Just watching the news…..whats going on with some of our female recording artist? Not mentioning her name but you don’t have to take your top off…..DON’T SELL YOUR SOULS. Do they even think about the kids watching them? Your talent should speak for itself. They said the police are getting involved. Its very disturbing! We gotta take a stand for whats right! Come on lets do better………..

Stacy Lattisaw: i’m not mentioning her name, ya ‘ll probabl know who i’m talking about if you ve seen the news. but what s on her mind? What kind of example is she setting for her kids? oh… it just breaks my heart
Stacy Lattisaw @ Michael, i believe it was a video but still….come on!
Stacy Lattisaw: yes, it is impacting some children. My kids are not allowed to watch or listen to much of the R&B mucsic today. There are spirits behind the music that get into these kids and then you wonder why they act the way they do, its because of what they re listening to and what they re watching!
Stacy Lattisaw@ Carrolyn, with all due respect, no one is assasinating her, that is not cool and ANYONE WHO THINKS WHAT SHE DID IS COOL….LORD HAVE MERCY…ALL I CAN SAY!
Stacy Lattisaw @ Jeff…..you re right …so right! We all pray for her. We love her. We are NOT assasinating her.
I liked the video, but I am disturbed that she didn’t use a green (or blue, whichever it is) screen.
Pay the fine and don’t do the ish again.
Sidebar: I luv the album. And I wouldn’t put Badu in the same class as the bootleg commercial female artists out today who can’t sing and always showing their azz.
I’m an old head and I remember Stacy. I didn’t know she was 13 when she sung that song. WOW!
Erykah has already sold her soul…hence why “a man can not look at her in her eyes without falling in love with her and then wearing crochet pants!” LOL! Damn shame.
Awwww! These were the good days of music. Loved Ms. Lattisaw (can’t wait to see her featured on “Unsung.” She was so underrated just like Shanice.
Stacy makes a lot of sense that’s why so many people don’t get it.

@ crochet pants. I wonder if Stacey were 13 now and was just discovered would her comment change. Most of todays females singers are “cookie cutters”. All sex and no substance, making money. Stacey was blessed with a beautiful voice, but I don’t see many of todays female singers not trying to sell their image through sex. Stacey was not a longevity artist because she may of had the T & A, but would not compromise who she is to capitalize on it. Good for her.

“there comes a time…” love stacy. she and johnny gill have a lot of history, meaning, both were singing well beyond their years as kids, if that makes any sense. they’ve always had very powerful voices at young ages.
stacey is one of those true singers who can blow on the spot, not music needed. she can go.
where do we go from here….i couldn’t think of the song she and johnny have together. youtube it. they threw down.
I always laugh when females accuse female singers of “selling T&A.”
The primary consumer for a female R&B singer is another female so what would be the point of “selling T&A?” Yeah, you may get a few male purchases but for the most part they will just admire the artists’ looks without commiting to buying their album/products.
The more talented and hardest working artists rise to the top.
I am 40 so I know who SL is and I use to play the heck out of that record but “legend” is a bit much.
What really irks me with this whole situation is that she made sure she got HER children’s and their daddy’s approval, but she went butt-naked out there without regard to other people’s children. That is selfish and irresponsible. She could’ve worn a flesh-toned thong and strapless bra seeing as how they blurred out those portions of her body anyway. Obviously she wasn’t thinking.
Lol @ Buddapecan and Anna you do have a point. My whole thing is all these people coming out the wood works ready to fight for Erykah but have never bought a cd and probably were not even born when Baduizm came out. Over on a site I cant name but really need to stop visiting these idiot kids are hollering racism, blaming Fox news for the outrage, saying its natural to be naked around children and saying Erykah’s name like she’s a modern day Angela Davis. What Stacey said was true and Erykah sold out for record sales simple as that. Her cd wasn’t being marketed so she pulled a huge publicity stunt. What I can’t get is why those on her side thinks she so holier than thou and above this when she’s a huuuuggggeee weedhead, that’s where her so called enlightenment comes from, she’s got three babies by three rappers, and while we’ve never seen her ass shaking on stage I don’t think she’s above it her music just doesn’t call for it. I’m a fan although she’s lost more than a few points for this one but I still will call a spade a spade and last night she had the nerve to tweet “charged on good Friday…..return of the ankh” umm yeah whatever Erykah get off the ish
Name a female artist that can sell her music w/out being under dressed? You all know I stan for Whit. Whit has never been more than fashion and yes she was on drugs and is trying to come back. MiMi, can’t let us see her w/out showing cleavage or coochie cutter shorts while she is only rehearsing. Britney, Lady “Gag” and and even 50 yr. old Madonna needs to put some darn clothes on. They are not “Tina Turner” who at any age has always had great legs. I don’t want to see Madonna’s Kabola aneroxic body half clothed.

Maybe it was irresponsible, but I think the response to Erykah’s video proved the point that she was trying to convey “groupthink”. As far as doing it to sell records? Hail naw…Erykah has never tried to sell records, she just sells good music. And, calling her out for having 3 kids with 3 different men–then there are a host of other folks you should be calling out i.e. a bunch of rappers, actors,video hos, and ballers. Don’t get high and mighty just because she pulled a “stunt”. She has always been on that ish, so that is not new news!

THANK YOU!!!! that proves how much people really know about her. you said all that needs to be said.
LEGEND?? ROTFLMAO!!!! She WAS a good singer, but she wasn’t even an icon. More like one of those “wonders” that gets their story told on “Where are they now.” I mean, did they ever give her a spot on Unsung?
Now most folks clowning the video and are up-in-arms about it basically proved Erykah’s point. Did anyone actually listen to her while watching the video?? It wasn’t about getting bucky naked to sell her album. It was about delivering a message, which seems to have gone over the heads of slow, dumb and blind.
@M3Z & Leat great artist or not she still is exactly what I called her. I’ve been a fan since the beginning which I believe I mentioned and I’ve bought every one of her cds. But what she did was not spectacular or anything special. What she did was drop her draws to state her message. Which created controversy which sells records. She didn’t need to get naked to get her point across, she’s been in the game for years and has never had to resort to that. And if she felt she did then she at least could’ve gone about it the proper way. I’m not gonna sit here because I’m a fan and endorse something stupid. I’m not that kind of fan and her groupthink philosophy is neither new or revolutionary. People have been saying the same thing for years. I think because I’m actually speaking out against what she did vs standing up for a dumb marketing ploy like the rest of her fans that I’m showing that I’m more than capable of thinking outside the box, going against the norm, straying away from the group with my line of thought. If evolving means that naked broads running down the street in front of kids and getting shot in the same spot as former presidents did to prove a point is going to be the norm than I want no part in evolution. Nor do I want to take part in an evolving society that feels its ok to break the law in order to showcase their art or prove a point. And I damn sure don’t want to take part in a society where its okay to pop baby after baby out by different men without even getting to the engagement stage of the relationship… oh wait, damn we’re already there. But that doesn’t mean I have to like it or endorse it and I will call out anyone who repeats those actions over and over without realizing that they are contributing to an unhealthy trend in todays society be they male or female. And trust I don’t have an issue with single mothers, I’m a single mother and my first two were born out of wedlock in my teens but when my son was 2 months old he was the best man in my wedding to their father. I do have an issue with perpetual baby mamas/daddies as I believe most should and if you preach self respect, love of your body and anything spiritual you should also live that life. Repeatedly having unprotected sex with men you’re not married to is a contradiction to all of that. So is mentioning Good Friday and ankh in the same sentence. So is saying your body is a temple but using drugs and I could go on. She is a talented woman but just as I feel about many rappers, she is not a role model nor the epitome of social consciousness. I may love her music but that does not mean I have to love her as a person or respect everything she does.
@ M3z Says:
Did you really know what “groupthink” was until she said it in her interviews/ on tv. What the heck is groupthink? I am 42, school me. Groupthink is stepping out side of the box and not letting peer pressure define one. Will we see “groupthink” in the DICTIONARY? Just asking.
Stacy Lattisaw is not on Erykah’s level professionally. Never has been and never will be. Also, I don’t know how you can call a person with one or two hits an R&B legend. I’m not sure why you said those things. Other than that, I respect her opinion. It was very disrespectful for Erykah to do that in front of unsuspecting adults and children. I don’t know what I would do if a person stripped in front of my children. I wouldn’t have minded the concept of the video if all the people involved were extras and there were no kids. Definitely not cool.
I was wondering did people know what groupthink was before Ms. Badu brought it up. I knew of it because of a class project
Her talent should speak for itself, I agree with Stacy. I Badu’s personal life is none of my business, but she lost cool points with this stunt as a performer. I have all of her CDs, but I will not purchase this one to make a statement. I am 100% not a group thinker. If I want gimmicks, nakedness, stripping, meaningless lyrics, etc., I would become a Bey or Gaga fan and that will never happen. The lyrics alone could have brought publicity; they are quite deep. For the record, Taylor Swift and Susan Boyle were the top selling artists of 2009.

No. He may say that we need to rethink what’s going on with the Agency. Groupthink,
When my kids come over for Easter dinner and say” mom we need to groupthink”, I will say “What U talking bout Willis? I say save the word “groupthink” for a word to be used for a rehab sex addiction circle of love rehab center. I will give a example. “I want to groupthink that what I did was wrong, but my name is Tiger Woods.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I never heard of it until now. I guess I need to spend more time in a class room vs a board room. There is no “I” in “Team”, in the board(bored) room. We just call what we do, putting our ideas together and as a “group” “Make It Happen”. Is the word “groupthink” going to catch on? When the man who pays my salary comes back from his vacation to the Masters, is he going to say “Anna, we need to “groupthink”?
groupthink is psychology 101. is this something new to ‘everyone’? really?
i got the message of her vid the first time; even tweeted a reply to her connecting kennedy, the grassy knoll and all that.
repeated viewings of the video only yield frustration; which i think was in part her intent. but she’s had to explain it so many times. ugh. i’d rather hear the song; scrap the visual. some music doesn’t need a video. with this song i can do without.
Team E badu she said she apologized for the kids aspect cause she didn’t think abt them being n the park while shooting until she saw them. Her cd is FIYAH and she didn’t take her clothes off 2 sell records I bet she sells close to what she normally does.
@ Anna I knew what groupthink was before she did this video.I’ve discussed in several of the courses that I have taken over the years.
And as for the thesis that Ms.Everything wrote..let’s leave it at that, we will agree to disagree. At the end of the day we all have to be judged by our master, universe, higher power, etc. Nobody is perfect, I just hope she learned from this and can move on. If she would have got a permit we wouldn’t even care at this point!
I think Stacey has an ep of Unsung coming up on TV1 soon
DEAD at a post being called a thesis
I am in my late 30s so I remember when Stacey came out ( yeah, I am old :lol:).
I love Erykah and I don’t think she is one of the artists that can be considered to sell her soul for a hit. Erykah is always making a statement in her music and I so appreciate it and will always support her if she continues.
Stacey has a good point, but it’s directed at the wrong artist. It’s a laundry list of folks she needs to tell this to and Erykah darn sure is NOT one of them.
THANK YOU STACEY! EXACTLY WHAT I SAID. however, erykah is trying to play this off as some “on another level” type ish and everybody’s giving her a pass. 60-80s music had all type of messages and statements and they didn’t have to get naked to get their points across.
We are to damn sensative! She was naked for what 15secs! Why are we so damn jugdemental? Let E do her, imma do me! I liked the video and her music, because it’s about something other then, being a rude boy, or catchy ass hooks with dances to go with it. My motto has always been, if you don’t like then don’t look or listen! Never knock somebody for they hustle.
Alright everyone….not to detract from the message Mrs. Lattisaw is trying to send but everyone from the DMV(DC, Maryland, and Virginia area) knows that her wealth is from ill-gotten means
so how dare she chastise E. Badu! Yes I’m team Badu and while I don’t condone/applaud what she did at least she is out there touring etc. whilst Mrs. Lattisaw has been sitting on her bum for the last twenty-five years or so letting her husband do-what-he-do!! Oh please!! Her residual/royalty checks are not stacked like that for her to still be relevant!! Good Music, yes but getting on her FB page being judgmental—-NO!
