Actress LisaRaye McCoy already has one hit show under her belt — TV One’s “The Real McCoy”. Her new VH1 scripted series, “Single Ladies”, is running neck-and-neck with “Basketball Wives 3.”
Last week, both shows scored ratings of 1.8 million viewers each. This is quite an achievement for a new scripted series!
The former first lady of Turks & Caicos, who is rumored to be dating a former ball player in Atlanta (I can’t say who) — is an independent woman who is no stranger to power struggles in her relationships with men.
She recently sat down with theUrbanDaily.com to talk about her role on “Single Ladies,” working with her sexy co-star D.B. Woodside, and should women marry for love or money.
TUD: How long do you wait for a guy to call back before you give him his walking papers?
LisaRaye: One week. There’s nothing going in your life that bad that you can’t pick up the phone. To me, that’s called respect and consideration—if you don’t have those two things, then we have nothing in common. I’ll just send you a thank you card for letting me know who you are so I won’t waste my time.
Out of the three friends, Keisha’s views on men seem to be very practical. She believes in marrying for security. Do you think women should marry for love or practicality?
I think both. I think marriage is love and commitment, but also a business. When I say it’s a business I mean you have to get very deep and involved in his history and find out his outlook on how he’s going to take care of his family. How are we going to run the household? Who brings the most money in? Who’s going to pay what? What are you bringing to the table? How do we protect what we have?
I know my worth. I’m an international woman, a former first lady. I’m accomplished. So I want someone equally yoked with me, I want him to bring something to the table so that we can be that much more powerful together. So I’m not looking for the average Joe.
Update: We just received word from LisaRaye, who denies being in a relationship with anyone. She said, and I quote, “please tell your readers that I am not dating anyone. I am very much single as a billion dollar bill!”
According to my sources, LR and former NBA player Charles Oakley arrived at Tongue & Groove together on Monday night. The two left together in LisaRaye’s white Range Rover.

Hmph, that looks like my homeboy Charles Oakley…. I like the show, it has room to grow but I do agree with Wendy Williams comment- I wish they would have found more straight men, I’m all about equal opportunity but geez.
*Side note. I have never seen the show, but I was flipping channels and a re-run was on late at night and I stopped because Stacy Dash was arguing with the dude about “putting a ring on it” and I watched for about 15 minutes.

I like the show. I can get past the flaws. Storylines are pretty good so far, a little twists and turns here and there. It’s still new and like most shows, hopefully it will get better with time.

I think the writing is superb! But the producers need to make better casting choices. Stop throwing C and D-list celebs into the mix just because they have face recognition. I think the bad acting hurts the quality of the show.

Like I said before, these females are too old (I mean mature) to be playing these parts. Not only can the actresses not act, they have to keep on dropping these random celebs in every show and what was up with all the references to NB’s website? Who is she doing over there now?
Living Single was off the hook. Queen Latifah got real actors on that show and it was so so great! But this here, just doesn’t make any sense that they couldn’t get black actresses who could actually act. The two main charactors suck!
I watch the show. Other than what I have referenced above, the show is pretty good. Love the story lines. The male actors are great (they look yummy too, but I digress); they just need to get two new women to play Keisha and Val. Boom!

The Game is good, Girlfriends was "Friends" w/white ppl, loved that show. All Of Us , I think I watched for "Little Bobby". LisaRaye can't act..
I personally Love Lisa Raye and the way she carries herself. Any and Everybody has to start from somewhere(@ Diamond Role) but that defnly does not define who she is and where she is going! I like the new show and her reality show as well. I dont think she proclaims to be the best actress, yet she is determined to be the best at whatever she does…..cant knock/hate her for that!
I wanna know who’s in the business of selling her that horrible hair. she has one of the worst weaves EVER!! Not as bad as Ciara’s original one two step weave but pretty damn bad.

One blog or another led me to believe that Golden Brooks was into white men and that her baby daddy was white. I had no idea D.B. Woodside is her long time beau and the father of her child. Why can’t black blogs get it right? I just saw that info online. Can’t they do that too?
Regardless of her acting skills….that’s not DELAYING THOSE CHECKS she is cashing in, so say what you want but no one is perfect and I’ve seen far worst actress and personalities in the entertainment business that should be thrown under a moving bus…okay!

now on to my post – Besides PC, what movie has she done? That same accent in every TV role??? Really! (which is really the same way she speaks in real life) does not create visions of dancing Oscars floating around my head… #sharpenyourcraft.
On the looks side, I personally think her sister is a banger (“word-up….hey”) and her daughter is thick in all the right spots.
My folk and my brother think L-Raye is da business so it could just be me.
I aint a hater so to make sure I leave this with a positive vibe… Aw F-it (tilts halo to the side T.I.P style), why did she get mad at the Black Men Mag that wanted to have the photo sh0t of her backside. Like that was beneath her. Like she really has some pristine image to protect that would suffer irrefutable harm from her appearing to get by on her body – gtfoh. In the words of Mike Epps, “It aint your beauty, it’s you boot-E”.
You would think she had a career résumé, Comic book-thick, the way she is portrayed on the reality show(s), mags and blogsphere.

I love the way they dress in her COLORed clothes on the show.. she should wear colors more often. I like her character on the show. I like the gay assistant guy also.
