Rutina Wesley: ‘I’m coming back; But half my head is missing’

‘True Blood’ fans were all atwitter on the social networking website Twitter.com during Sunday night’s epic finale.

Entertainment Weekly’s Inside TV spoke exclusively with sexy ‘True Blood’ star Rutina Wesley about the shocking finale and whether or not Tara survives the gunshot that took off half of her head:

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What did you think when you read the season finale script?
RUTINA WESLEY: Well I mean, I knew ahead of time that it was coming. It’s always a scary place as an actor to go there.

In your mind, is Tara dead?
Well I mean half my head is missing. I’m just gonna keep saying that. You know, it’s True Blood. I feel like anything is possible. If anything, it is the golden hour though. If she is able to be saved, it’s like she’s got 20 seconds. It’s not a lot of time. I’m curious to see what they’re going to do with all of it. I hope I’m back. But again half my head is missing [laughs].

It was crazy! Are people approaching you?
Well my phone has been blowing up. I talked to Nelsan and his phone was blowing up. He was like, “People are about to start a riot over you.” I think that’s so sweet to know that people out there are really upset and some people are like, “I’m not watching the show anymore!” I’m like, C’mon guys. But it’s not over. It ain’t over til the fat lady sings. I’m just gonna take it one day at a time. As I said, I haven’t seen any scripts from next season, but I know that I’m involved — I just don’t know in what way.

Are you signed on for a season 5?
Yeah. It’s out there that Alan has already said that he has big plans for Tara. But things change. I don’t know exactly what they have in store for me and how long that will be. It’s tricky. And if I did know, I’m just not going to say. [Laughs] But again — half the head is missing. The cool part is people are talking. And that’s the question is: Is she dead or is she not? Because people can survive head wounds. But we have people on the show that can make things happen — you know what I mean? I don’t know what’s going to happen the first episode of next season. I’m just as excited and curious you are. I hope it’s good. I hope I stick around for a while. That would be nice. [Laughs]

I love the show even though I don’t particularly care for the way the African-American characters are written.

Actually I was relieved when I thought Tara had been killed on Sunday’s finale because Tara is one of the most tortured characters on the show.

But since there are vampires on the show it is possible for her to survive if she gets some of their blood in time.

I think that’s a somewhat realistic and relatable role for both her and Lafayette. Yeah it can be a bit much, but overall, I don’t think their characters are something I haven’t seen in real life.

Rutina is very muscular and it is hard for her to look soft in photos. She does look good here though.

Anyhoo, True Blood is my favorite show on TV, TEAM ERIC!! Alan Ball expanded the Tara character because she was only a minor character in the books and she was white not black. Same with Lafayette who died early in the books (remember in Season 1 finale when they found the body of the fake healer, in the book that was Lafayette) Alan Ball has given mad props to his black audience by making these two so integral in the show. Regardless of what Rutina is saying, I think Tara is dead, but I will be very happy if I am wrong and they find a way to bring her back. To have to wait until next July makes me sad, but at least I can now go read the latest book (too confusing to read the book and watch the show at the same time, they are waaay different!!)

She looks damn good in that pic. I was sooo happy when they ridded the character of those braids. Tara will be back, of course. I think they will give her V and she’ll heal. With Sookie screaming the way she was at the end, next season will begin with Eric and Bill at the kitchen door because Sookie was screaming for help.

Good morning! I’m a Trubie and even though I was a little disappointed in the season finale I love this show. Tara is not dead, Sookie’s fairy friends will save her OR Bill and Eric will come because Sookie is afraid OR Lafayette will bring her back from the dead somehow- whatever voodoo they do she will be saved. Team Bill- who is Sookie’s husband in real life. “I’m Vampire Sookie” Can’t wait for Dexter new season!!

****Man I’m so glad ya’ll people of color watch this show so I no longer feel like such a freak. I have cut vacations short to come home on Sunday andwatch Trublood (and I have a DVR). It was tooo short and waiting until July is going to kill me. Well at least its football season.

I could care less what happens to Arlene or Terry. She gets on my nerves with that terrible accent and she’s always whining about something and seeing her dead babydaddy.

Terry is nuttier than a fruitcake. I guess his old Army bud is going to bang Arlene. LOL

Yeah I hated that Lafayette is going to be all along again. I still don’t understand why Ball as a gay man never showed Lafayette and Jesus having sex. They showed Eric banging Russell’s boytoy right before Eric killed him, but nothing for the only real gay couple on the show.

Andy impregnated that fairy. I just hope the kid doesn’t look like Andy’s country azz.

Russell escaped his concrete crypt and I guess he’ll be after Bill to get his title of Governor of Louisiana back.

I would love to see her play Serena in a few years. Good season ending IMO. I didn’t enjoy the witch season as much as the others. This antagonist really left me irritated. lol Oh well, still a True Blood Fan.

I haven’t watched the finale because its my treat for running 10 miles by Friday. 3 to go!

I think the theory that she’ll be made is a good one. Its a smart place to take her character after all of the times she’s been a victim via a vamp. She’d be sexy, sensitive like Bill (maybe), or could take the political route. (Next Nan Flannigan in 30 years?)

Tara is so pretty. I love her on the show. She is a great actress. I hope she comes back next season. I could not believe that she got shot at the end of the season finale. I agree with previous posters that she is either going to get zapped back to life by Sookie and her fairy powers or Bill/Eric or Russel will turn her into a vampire. I’m glad Sookie killed Debbie, I was tired of her on the show. Rev. Newlin is a vampire? Lafayette still has those evil powers within him that were given by Jesus via Marnie. Next season will be great…can’t wait.

Love True Blood! Best show on TV.
