George Zimmerman’s credibility was tested when he and his wife, Shellie, conspired to lie about how much money had been collected from the public to pay his legal fees. The Florida state attorney’s office has released the statement Zimmerman gave to Sanford police the night he shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
In a video reenactment recorded by Sanford police investigators, Zimmerman described what he says occurred on Feb. 26 when he encountered Trayvon walking home in a gated community.
Zimmerman’s story has changed several times depending on who he’s talking to. His statements are inconsistent with what we all heard in the audio of the 911 call. In the reenactment video, Zimmerman says the dispatcher told him to “get to somewhere where you can see him,” indicating that the dispatcher told him to follow Trayvon.
But the dispatcher clearly told Zimmerman not follow Trayvon that rainy night.
In the video Zimmerman said Trayvon jumped out of bushes and ambushed him. Previously, Zimmerman has said Trayvon sneaked up behind him and knocked him to the ground with one punch before pounding his head into the pavement. Zimmerman walked away with a few scratches on the back of his head. None of his injuries are consistent with what he says happened to him that night.
