President Obama Proposes Free Community College

President Obama

President Barack Obama will announce his plan to make community college free for all students.

Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will announce the plan at Pellissippi Community College in Knoxville on Friday.

The White House expects 9 million students to participate in the program — if approved by a Republican-dominated Congress.

The program has a projected cost of $70 billion.

“With no details or information on the cost, this seems more like a talking point than a plan,” said Cory Fritz, a spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio.

The federal government would pay three quarters of the cost, at least initially, according to USA Today.

From USA Today:

The America’s College Promise program would be available to traditional and non-traditional college students, she said, and would support those seeking the first two years of a bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree, or even just job training.

Obama said a world-class education starts with children, but that adults need training, too. “It’s not just for kids, we also have to make sure that everybody has the opportunity to constantly train themselves for better jobs, better wages, better benefits.”

It’s already free. My son went to Atlanta Metropolitan College for an Associates in Accounting and didn’t pay a dime. He even received money back after paying for classes and books with grant money. I’m assuming that grant money is going to stop and students will stop getting those extra dollars.

Thats not free…your son was just able to qualify for more financial assistance than what his tuition was…depending on income everyone does not get enough assistance to cover everything. Your son just didnt have to come out of pocket but thats not free

Education should be free – it is in Barbados you can go all the way to St Mary’s Girl School (equivalent of college)for free… why should only those who are financially able be afforded the right to be educated and thus earn more…. unfortunately when you give things away folks take it for granted so free education would be the equivalent of the EBT card – a bunch of lazy azz bishes got it and lose it cause they didn’t go back to the office to recertify – duoh!!!

I was an R.A, worked a xmas seasonal job at Victoria’s Secret, part time at Filenes, and I worked in the student office scheduling tutoring.

still ended up with a loan to pay off it was only 10k which somehow became 20k but still…..

my problem wasn’t laziness, my problem was that I didn’t have any financial common sense. took a long time to get some. a LONG TIME.

If they do it with an attitude, just be nice about it and wait until you’re at home and call the manager to explain that you, A PAYING CUSTOMER, did not have a good experience and were treated rudely by the staff. They may give you a manafer’s comp as a courtesy.

I’m sure Crickett’s son qualified for the Hope scholarship. If students maintain a certain GPA, 3.0 in my time-it has been since raised-, are residents of GA, and attend a public institution of higher learning, all tuition was included plus a stipend for books-irregardless (shout out to UFO ) of the parents’ income.

pilates is supposed to work for your whole core but I found it too boring. I know at bikram yoga there is a specific pose for the lower belly but you don’t want to go to bikram, right? even the big girls in my class have tight abs.

Yes jenie I did the same thing the other day – gas light came on and I handed dude a $20 and said give me super – when he finished my needle was on F – I was in her car doing the happy dance like yes but alas these Republicans about to rupture the planet (ever see the movie the core) well all this fracking we doing in Texas is creating earth tremors (of course they won’t say that’s why but it is) and so if they keep doing it the tremors will only get worse and who’s to say they can be corrected once they start so although I love the lower gas prices i’m afraid that we will pay for it in the long run (although right now I think prices are down due to them Arabs being scurd cause we got fed up with their exorbitant prices and started using our own supply…

I qualified for Hope but because of a clerical issue was unable to attend the institution of my choice…no housing… no money for an apartment.. didn’t have a car…by the time it rolled around for next semester i had housing and Hope was like bish nah you need to reapply and the waiting list is like on a zillion… so then the school was like come back next year… so i needed up going to a private institution .. and got over 100,000 in student loan debts… including my masters…and i had partial scholarships most of the time. Graduated magna cum laude .. both times… maybe even summa .. LAWD I WAS DUMB It was SUMMA….. According to Wiki…

i do those. it mainly hurts my back tho.. i have to elevate my back or prop it up to do them. I also lay on my back and scissor my legs or lift then in the air… and have implemented mountain climbers…buffy the body has a fb for it.I guess i just gotta be patient .. like i said end of the year..i got 11 months to work on it
@Shake: I bean juicing,green smoothing..primarily… 2 times a day.Then one regular meal.Like last night I had baked talapia and broccoli. It tasted like heaven I gained weight over the holidays so i need to shock it off. In February i will cut out the jucing.. but i might still do green smoothie1 or twice a day with small meals. no starches or sweets… dairy… unless here and there on weekend.

yep.. i ended up having to get accepted some where else last minute. didn’t want to sit out another semester.. it was a private institution… no Hope money… i was going to transfer after a year. got in.. made friends.. pledged… never transferred…. to be young and dumb… had i left though i never would have met my hubby.. we met at the end of my undergrad career

I bought a juicer last year after i watched a documentary on a dude who did it for i think 90 days and lost 70 pounds and cleared up his health… i only did it (modified) for about 3 weeks… but i must say i feel healthier. But yeah buy TONS of fruit a veggies and put it through the machine. But it is expensive because you have to buy a lot of fruit/veggies to get the juice. Today i have lemon, kale, apples, ginger root, carrots and cucumber. I only have kale because i ran out of spinach.
for the green smoothie i do: kale/spinach, fresh banana,frozen fruit mix from store, water, steevia to sweeten and ground flax seed. i usually have a green smoothie every morning unless i make breakfast on the weekends or am traveling.

@User I mainly stayed out of the spotlight or was pregnant so i BEAR LEE saw folk but yea i get the you getting so small!! the ironic part is that the people here have only know me pregnant or bigger. my friends back home know my struggle and be like you doing it… cause most of them gained weight since college and trying to snap back too

Chile whatchu say? Man, I will say this though……if you cut oit sugars, that can help you lose weight. I hav taken Man’s advice, and he is right……I didn’t miss it like I thought I would. And I still manage to stay full. I don’t buy juice and I don’t drink pop. I am really proud of myself.

@Kama, I follow so may MUA on IG. There are some good ones that set up shop in beauty salons and some have studios like Latasha Wright- she used to work @ MAC in the mall. If you go into a department store, MAC and Bobbi Brown have the best color palettes that match brown skin tones.

@Kam we got the Brieville for $99.. work fine. It came with the DVD.. i think i went to the fat sick and nearly dead website. it was the same one he used. got it off amazon. some people stretch the juice with coconut water or water…. but there are numerous receipts for different ailments online.

@Shake.. try to do the 10 day green smoothie cleanse…. it has different stuff you can eat along with the smoothie. where as juicing (the strict way) it is rough boss. You can do the frozen fruit for the smoothie. that is what i do. get them from wal-mart $9.99 a bag… mix it with water,spinach/kale and banana with the steevia and flax seeds..
yea juicing is not a game… i was going to do it for 3 days ..straight juice.. i did it before for a week… but i had to eat something had salads with it …

Babe, that’s all any of us can do, you know? I did mine gradually….after Man gave me that advice, I stopped buying sweets. I already chew gum, so that took care of my sweet tooth, if you will. I just have to start exercising more and implement more fruits and veggies.

so they told my hubby the cold weather messed up something on the car so they have to fix it…. told them legally they can’t give him his car byke.. he might have to stay there.. in the Rav 4… thye don’t have his loaner and the Rav 4 belong to another dealership… he is pist i told him just breathe and he might need to stay put.
