Ohio cop stops knife-wielding man without killing him; man begged cop 50 times to shoot him
Ohio Police Chief Dave Warman is praising one of his officers who managed to shoot a knife-wielding murder suspect without killing him.
Pablo “Cubano” Aleman’s unsuccessful attempt at suicide by cop proves that police officers sometimes do follow proper training procedure when faced with a threat to bodily harm.
Aleman reportedly begged Glendale Officer Josh Hilling “49 times” to “kill me!” while rushing the officer with a 10 or 12-inch bowie knife.
Hilling initially stopped Aleman for walking on the highway. It was later determined he stabbed someone to death.
Interestingly enough, the officer fired only once, striking the man in his abdomen.
“He used that same knife we’re thinking on the person he killed,” Warman told the Daily Beast blog.
“I had an open shot at him and he began to charge my other officer who was on the right,” Warman told The Daily Beast. “I was forming a triangle between the two [officers] and for a brief second I thought I was going to have to put this guy down just to keep him from hurting somebody else.”
“He could have unloaded on him if he wanted to,” Warman said of Hilling. “He had every right to but he thought to himself that he could stall him long enough after firing that one shot for our guys to get there and support him.”
The chilling sequence of events was captured on the officer’s body cam.
Aleman later apologized to the cop from his hospital bed where he is being guarded 24 hours.
“Tell the officer that I’m sorry for having to put him in that position,” he said.
