Baton Rouge shooter Gavin Eugene Long, 29, was a unrepentant racist who left behind a series of YouTube videos ranting about Independence Day, starting a revolution, and fighting back against oppressors.
Long ambushed and shot six Baton Rouge police officers, killing 3, on Sunday. He was shot and killed during a shootout with police.
Investigators say Long traveled to Baton Rouge from his home in Kansas City to target police officers. It is believed he retaliated against the police for the death of Alton Sterling, a black man who was killed by 2 white officers 2 weeks ago.
In one video, Long, who used the pseudonym “Cosmo Setepenra”, ranted about standing up for his rights. “Knowing your rights is nothing to a bully; nothing to a demon, nothing to a devil,” he said. “You gotta stand on your rights. You gotta sacrifice.”
Long joined the United States Marine Corps and served for 5 years, earning the rank of sergeant.
In the video, he said he feels “embarrassed” when he sees women at rallies. He said men should be ready to die, kill his enemy, or not return home to his wife and children.
