Florence Henderson, who played the kind-hearted mom Carol Brady on TV’s Brady Bunch, died Thursday at age 82.
Henderson died of heart failure at a Los Angeles hospital, her rep confirmed.
Henderson was already an established Broadway and movie star before making the transition to television.
For most of us growing up in the ’60s and ’70s, the Brady Bunch was our first exposure to the affable, charming lady who was dubbed “America’s mom”.
On the Brady Bunch, Henderson played a single mom of 3 daughters who took in her husband’s 3 sons without complaining. She always knew the right words to say to resolve conflict between the members of her blended family.
Henderson’s Carol Brady was the perfect example of a dying breed of stay-at-home moms who placed the needs of her husband and children above her own.
