Democrats are speaking out about former President Barack Obama’s non-stop, ultra expensive vacations. One Democrat strategist accused Obama of “living like the lifestyles of the rich and famous” on the taxpayers’ dime.

Until now, former President George Bush topped the list for most expenses among ex-presidents. According to the Washington Post, the government spent nearly $3.7 million on all living former presidents in 2012.

Bush was the costliest ex-president at over $1.3 million. But Obama has already shattered Bush’s record for costliest ex-president — and he hasn’t been out of office a full year yet.

Ex-presidents usually go on much-needed vacations after leaving office. But, except for a few speaking tour stops here and there, Obama has been on a virtual non-stop vacation since he left office in January.

The list of Obama’s costly vacations includes a visit to late actor Marlon Brando’s private island; an extended stay at the Four Seasons in Bali at $2,000 per night; a visit to a Palm Springs estate; parasailing on Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island at $80,000 a night; a month’s stay in the Polynesian Islands; a round of golf in Tuscany, Italy, and now he’s chilling in Indonesia with his family.

The whopping costs to taxpayers includes expenses for private jets, fighter jets to escort his private jets, at least 12 rental limos for his entourage at every stop, and hotel rooms for the dozen or so Secret Service agents who travel with him.

“These trips are like the lifestyles of the rich and famous,” said Democratic strategist Pat Caddell, who believes Obama’s vacations are “unprecedented” for ex-presidents.

Other Democrats are also troubled by what they are seeing. It’s all part of a trend, they say, of Obama trying to join the fabled 1 percent.

“Obama is not as wealthy or as conservative as Trump, George W. Bush, or George H.W. Bush, but he enjoys what used to be called ‘the lifestyle of the rich and famous,'” said Dr. David Michael Smith of the Houston Socialist Movement. “I am not surprised by Obama’s several recent foreign vacations. As president, he disappointed millions of supporters who hoped he would be a strong advocate for working-class people.”

“I’m a little sick of seeing photos of President Obama on vacation with Richard Branson,” said HBO host John Oliver in an interview with Seth Meyers on Late Night Monday. “Just tone it down with the kite-surfing pictures. I’m glad he’s having a nice time – [but] America is on fire.”

“I’m not sure he’s ever been more out of touch than he is right now,” Oliver added.
