Jay-Z is losing his touch. Not willing to let a couple of newborn babies upstage him, the nearly 50-year-old rap mogul announced he was adding the hypen back in his stage name. Then he teased his social media followers with promos for his upcoming album, titled 4:44, dropping June 30 on Tidal.
But where’s the Internet buzz for his new music?
The social media response to Jigga’s upcoming album is so quiet you can hear a pin drop. Gone are the heady days when fans whipped themselves into a frenzy over his next album.
The difference now is Jay-Z’s old enough to be a grandfather to most rap music consumers. And while they respect his contributions to rap music, they aren’t checking for his grandpa rap style.
These kids today don’t want to hear an over-the-hill rapper spitting lyrics about drug dealing or living a violent gangsta lifestyle. They want to hear Migos, Kendrick Lamar, and Li’l Yachty.
Jay-Z is past his prime, and social media is letting him know it.
