An arrest has been made in the cold case murder of ex-NBA star Lorenzen Wright. Wright was shot and killed in July 2010 in Memphis, Tennessee.
Tennessee police arrested Billy Turner, 46, on suspicion of murder. He was charged with 1st-degree murder and indicted Tuesday. Turner’s bail was set at $1 million, Fox News reported.
The cold case was revived last month when police recovered a revolver from a lake in Walnut, Miss. Ballistics tests showed the gun was the one that killed Wright.
Wright was a resident of Atlanta but he was in Memphis visiting his children and friends at the time of his death.
Wright, who was 34 when he died, was last seen leaving his ex-wife Sherra Wright’s home in the Memphis suburb of Collier on July 18, 2010. His mother filed a missing person’s report on July 22.
Wright’s badly decomposed body was found on July 28 in a marshy field near a wooded area. His body had been exposed to the searing summer heat for 10 days and weighed just 57 pounds. Wright was 6’11” and his playing weight was 225 pounds.
Wright played for the Memphis Grizzlies, Atlanta Hawks and two other NBA teams over 13 seasons before retiring in 2009.
