Justin Bieber and JAY-Z

Justin Bieber is reportedly skipping the Grammy Awards for the 2nd year in a row. The 23-year-old Canadian singer believes the awards show is no longer relevant, even as he is nominated for 3 trophies — all for his collaboration with Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee on the hit remix of their #1 hit song “Despacito”.

In 2017, Justin reportedly skipped the Grammy Awards because he, “doesn’t think the Grammys are relevant or representative, especially when it comes to young singers.”

Kanye West, who also won’t be in the house, addressed the discrimination against rappers in 2016: “If the most important artists in music don’t consider your award worth winning, what is your relevance?” he said.

Despite receiving 10 Grammy nominations over the years, Justin has only won one trophy, the Best Dance Recording award for “Where Are U Now”, his collaboration with Jack U.

Justin’s snub comes as black artists and other artists of color are better represented on this year’s Grammy Awards than at any time in Grammy history.

For the first time, rap, Hip-hop and R&B acts dominate the 2018 Grammy nominations in the 4 major categories.

“For the first time in the Recording Academy’s history, a white man isn’t nominated for Album of the Year,” said Refinery29.com.

The Grammys have been criticized in the past for not recognizing artists of color like Beyonce, who consistently place hits on the charts.

Bey suffered the ultimate indignity last year when she was snubbed for Album of the Year for the socially conscious Lemonade (she lost to British chanteuse Adele).

Probably in retaliation for the snub, Beyonce’s husband, rap titan JAY-Z, announced he will not perform on this year’s Grammys.

JAY-Z, who is already a 21-time Grammy winner, leads the nominees at the 2018 Grammys, having secured 8 nods, one more than fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar.

But the father-of 5 declined to perform on Sunday’s live telecast, hosted by British comedian James Corden at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
