Calls for Waffle House boycott following police brutality incident

Waffle House

Social media activists are calling for justice for a black woman after two Caucasian Alabama police officers arrested the woman inside an Alabama Waffle House at 2:15 a.m. Monday.

Chikesia Clemons was manhandled, thrown to the floor, choked, and practically stripped naked by two cops who responded to a 911 call from the restaurant.

Instagram.com user Meeche Harmon wrote:

“So no one caring that two #Alabama #BlueKluxKlan cops had their grimy hands all over one of our sisters and violated her in public. It’s time to #BoycottWaffleHouse. I’ve only been once and the food is nasty AF anyway. #AwfulHouse. #ChikesiaClemons”.

Clemons’ friend, who recorded the incident on her smartphone, wrote in an IG post:

“At approximately 2:15am myself and my friend Chikesia Clemons enter the Waffle house and proceeded to dine in for food .. I then told this white Caucasian woman my order and ask could I have plastic utensils.. She then told me that it would be .50 cent . Lol I told her that I had just eaten there the night before and they didn’t charge me .50 cent and so on ..Shortly after and me my friend continued with our conversation and our rude ass waitress “Goldie” decided to put her two cents in on our conversation that had nothing to do ever th her .. I then read her rights and then canceled my order and walked out .. However my friend stayed behind to get a understanding while I waited outside only to have the cops called on her and to be treated this way .. After tonight I’m done with mobile police period ..I understand the priorities of them doing their job but tonight wasn’t it ..They made and me and friend feel unsafe and not welcome to the city of Saraland.”

The news comes 2 weeks after 2 black Philadelphia men were arrested after refusing to leave a Starbucks coffeeshop. Starbucks will close all stores in the U.S. on May 29 for diversity training.

Update: A Waffle House rep responded to the allegations of false arrest and police brutality:

“It has just been brought to my attention that Waffle House has issued a statement supporting the actions of these officers. Why?? Because they don’t give a damn about us and they know you will continue to spend your money there. #WeNeedJustice Tag everyone..”
