Brazil police officer

An off-duty female police officer was in the right place at the right time when an armed thug attempted to rob a security guard in front of a kindergarten school in the central region of Suzano, a city in São Paulo, Brazil.

Katia da Silva Sastre, 42, and her daughters, ages two and four, had attended a Mother’s Day luncheon at their kindergarten when Elivelton Neves Moreira, 21, approached the school security guard with his gun drawn on Saturday, May 12.

As Moreira pointed his gun at the older man, Corporal Sastre — who happens to be an off-duty policewoman — produced a weapon and fired 2 shots into Moreira’s chest and one in his leg.

Surveillance video shows Corporal Sastre pull her weapon out of her tote bag, chamber a round and fire within 3 seconds.

The impact from the shots knocked Moreira out of his flip flops.

He fell to the ground screaming in pain and pleaded with her not to shoot him again (the video has no sound).

Corporal Sastre stopped shooting only when her gun jammed.

According to LiveLeak.com, the gunman was transported to a hospital where he died a day later.

Corporal Sastre is being hailed a hero for her quick actions.

“I didn’t know if he was going to shoot the kids or the mothers or the security guard at the school door,” she said after the incident.

Sastre, whose husband is a police lieutenant, was honored in a ceremony by Sao Paulo Governor Marcio Franca on Sunday.
