With stories of school shootings and violence assaults dominating the headlines, here is a story about a teacher that you won't see in the headlines.

The next time you complain about your long workday, consider just one day in the life of Mrs. Taylor Duncan, a dedicated 9th grade teacher at Southwest DeKalb High School here in Georgia.

In addition to teaching her 9th grade class, Mrs. Duncan, aka Coach Tay, is a mother-of-4 who just gave birth to her youngest daughter over the summer. She coaches the cheerleading squad; she's the yearbook advisor; she's a certified yoga instructor, and she just started classes at Mercer University to earn another degree.

Did I mention Coach Tay's youngest child is only 5 months old? It exhausted your auntie just writing about Coach Tay's workday!

Coach Tay went viral over the weekend on social media after she snatched a student's phone for live-streaming in her class.

What sets this video apart from other videos recorded in urban schools is the response of the student when the teacher snatched his phone.

In a different school, in a different district, a student would have beaten the snot out of the teacher for snatching his phone -- and that video would be headline news.

The difference is the teacher. A good teacher will bring out the best in her students. Mrs. Duncan deserves Teacher of the Year for all that she does for her students.

In short, our schools need more teachers like Coach Tay. Our children are being neglected and forgotten, while the Democrats pour billions of dollars into schools with a majority immigrant student body.

If you know any Coach Tays, send them a card, or an email, or drop them a text or a DM on social media to let them know how much they are appreciated!

Sandra, this write up was so good up unto this point...then it took a sharp left. I know where you were going with this, but Geezus. It got back on track though.

Anyways, this was a good 'Women You Should Know' installation. Let's keep this trend going.

A beautiful women. This is what a real boss lady look like, and she reminds me of many of the hard working women in my family. Many of my family work a job, and is steady doing other things on the side all the while raising their children. In my family we have helped so often to see after our younger siblings , and help feel in for Mama while she continues to double task. Great Read Auntee.

  • ClaireHuxtable

Thank you for what you do, Coach. I give big props to anyone willing to work with our young people today. Good teachers are unsung heroes.

  • Trey

    keep it classy....

Congratulations Coach Tay on the fantastic work you do as an educator!

Your teaching colleagues, most whom are elder veteran teachers over 60 that have been assaulted in classrooms by their students, work just as hard, are as educated, have families that love them and are not at fault for the disrespect and violence of students in their classrooms.

All good teachers deserve respect and recognition.

Those assaulted in the line of educator duty, deserve our love, support, and prayers.

  • Ryan

Good for her!! And good to start the week with some positivity. I know she had to have read this and was like "Huh?" when she got to the Democrat bashing but that's ok, her blessings outshine the hate.

  • DaughterOfaQueen

    Go head coach Tay!

  • Vonn

Definitely a woman we should know!!

  • the guest

You are blessed to have a supportive and encouraging family network of women which makes all the difference in the world. Even married mothers benefit from having a supportive family.

  • TransMichelle

No Mrs.Duncan deserves a Busy Mother of the Year Award for all that she does while having 4 children with the youngest 5 months old.

  • stevetheque

In a different school, in a different district Lol!! It's Dekalb County. Don't act like SWD or any school in the disrict doesn't have any ratchet hooligans that attend school that won't snap!! She just happened to catch a respectable young man!

  • Yoni7

I must have missed the video. Where can I find it?

  • Quagsire!

    Great story SR. Thanks!

  • the guest

Coach Tay doesnt have a magic power over student violence that other teachers don’t have. That particular student did not react violently.

I’m certain there are many students that never called that music teacher the n word and threw a ball at him when he asked them to leave the classroom. I’m certain there are many students that never punched that teacher in the face when she asked them or mispronounced their name.

Students who threaten and beat on teachers are unwell and no teacher has a magic power over violently mentally ill students.

The student Coach Tay snatched the phone from obviously is not violently mentally ill and adverse to authority and discipline. She was blessed in that instance.

    Shout out to Coach Duncan!
Keep being amazing and good luck with all your endeavours.

There's a lot more stories like this and it should be highlighted. Idgaf about no ig thots and blog thirst traps. ??

  • Alextra Ballard

She's relatable to her students...and they definitely can relate to her...Good job and upmost respect to Mrs Duncan. Sandra thanks for a positive post.

  • We Can Do This

Mr. Duncan is one lucky man.

She definitely deserves recognition for her positive presence she's giving her young students.

She's a strong role model for students who probably lack guidance and structure in their home life.

  • ohdearme

In short, our schools need more teachers like Coach Tay. Our children are being neglected and forgotten, while the Democrats pour billions of dollars into schools with a majority immigrant student body.

Always a slanted political angle, so out of touch and false. Takes away from the story about the teacher. Smh

  • Lovely1

Hey... My alma mater. Love it. Will definitely remember her name.

  • hottlanta

Lilhots been a educator for 20 years n she said the job is tough but she loves it. I was enjoying the article until she HAD 2 talk about the democrats failure in education but conviently left out the republican education betsy devoe who cant even read. It is amazing how she didnt mention her charter school failure in Michigan where they took money out of public schools n they gotta start over n she is trying 2 do the same thing nationwide. Thé shade of it all.

  • RealATLPeach36

Uuumm school just started in August he should not have an F. Put his ass in a special needs class...and an excellent ole Azz beating perhaps an Adderall he’ll be okay.

  • stevetheque

Dumb as a rock Betsy Devoe!! Trump only appoints winners!!! Lol

  • Lady_Elle

    Dumber than rocks Betsy Devoe!
    A political contribution favor. :-(
Give the job to someone that has EARNED it... no matter the political party!

  • Renee26

Good pick! Highlighting a female who lives in the real world not the Instagram realm.

Kudos to her and ALL teachers even those under a lot of stress... I won't say that a childs response is a reflection of the teacher doing a good job or not. It isn't easy.

  • stevetheque

Contribution from her Blackwater (mercenaries) owning brother!!

  • Lady_Elle

    Thank you Mrs. Duncan!
I applaud her for ALL that she does (teacher, mother, wife, cheer coach).
I think she crossed a line by live streaming the kid has an "F" in her class.
Maybe she was just stunting... and he has something better than an "F". :-)

  • Lady_Elle

Mrs. Duncan's baby is a cutie patootie.
Is that her daughter... cheerleader? They look alike.... another cutie!
    She has a FULL calendar.

  • Nathan Hastings

    I agree with Sandra.

  • Faithz

Yea we was bought up the hard working people way. We was taught to have love for each other, and love for others. And we was taught to give a days work for a day
pay. So many people are wanting to trey and crook, and nook their way to the top now days.

  • ShadesofEMPRESS

Thanks auntie! Im tired of instagram models with fake bodies, hair and everything and no job. You posted a woman who makes a difference with a career.

  • tia

The young man she snatched that phone from could have easily snapped. She snatched from the “right one”. With the wrong student, that could have easily went South. Thank God the young man was pretty respectable. Other than that, continued blessings to this educator. It’s not easy going into the trenches day after day with these young people. These kids are something for the people. That’s being nice:)

  • Sassie

She's a cutie pie. I'm glad he didn't put his grubby little hands on her.

  • hottlanta

Yep wonder how much money he getting in that saudi arabia arms deal.

  • pecancandy

Teachers Rock! Thanks for all that you do!

  • free

i would need to get paid like an NBA max player, guaranteed contract to deal with these chillun. yall are doing God's work with minimum wages!

  • Nellybynature

I agree but let's all say it together, " it takes a village" no one person or entity can take all the credit or bear all the responsibility. School is like a second home when you look at the time spent there. A great teacher is relatable and respectable. Amazing she is a woman of many hats!

  • https://sandrarose.com SandraRose

The reason I added that part was to show the difference a great teacher makes when relating to her students. That boy stayed in his seat and didn't utter a word when she took his phone.

We've all seen the videos of students cutting up in class and the lack of respect they show to their teachers. Mrs. Duncan should be commended and praised for instilling respect in her students.

  • https://sandrarose.com SandraRose

I beg to differ. I once had a friend who was a middle school teacher in Miami. Whenever I visited her at work, I walked down the hall and heard the students cutting up in other classes -- but not hers! Her students were always seated and they showed her respect!

She didn't gain their respect through threats, she did it through love. She showed them she cared about them, and they respected her for that. You should've seen how she talked to each child like he or she was the only one in the room.

Good teachers do make a difference!

  • https://sandrarose.com SandraRose

    It's true! You've seen the videos. ?

  • Tiffany Smith

Hmmm Auntie you wrote this post without doing your research. Are you aware that she does not like children with disabilities and was recently in trouble with the school district for making comments about children that has them? She also stated that she would not put any cheerleader on her cheer team that has one. Not a very good representation for good teachers.

  • Dontgetdraggedhoe??

Bye girl lmao she snatched his phone but she herself trynna be famous on the gram i cyant ???

  • stevetheque

    At least a billion

  • https://sandrarose.com SandraRose

I'm sure she doesn't want a disabled girl to get hurt on the cheerleading squad. That doesn't mean she does not like disabled children. Forgive me for saying this, you sound like a hater.

  • bemetoo

    love ot

  • Tiffany Smith

How about you check your facts. It will do you some good.

  • Tiffany Smith

Plus its against any educator to discriminate against anybody. You need to read up on teachers ethics because I work at the same school and she is not that great. So try again.

  • https://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Her students think she's great. I listed everything she accomplishes in just one day while caring for 4 children of her own. List your accomplishments.

  • Cricket404

Good story, I guess she's the cool teacher. I will have to say that there are levels to teaching and the students you teach. She sounds like a great person, but so is the teacher who choses to work in the trenches with troubled kids that have behavior problems and IEP's.

  • Y’all Jealous Cuz I’m Prudy

Beautiful teacher with a beautiful soul. May she keep being an inspiration to everyone she encounters.

Also, that baby is such a little cupid pie. I would kiss her little cheeks to déath. Lol!

  • ImWoke

I was that teacher in the trenches with IEPs, and behavioral disabilities, but I loved my students dearly and wouldn’t trade them for the world. Students respond to you like that when they respect you.

  • ImWoke

Legally she can’t discriminate against any child with a disability.

  • http://www.NeCola.Mayvenn.com Chile_Pleeze

AYEEEE That's my school.. I'm SOOOO SOUFWESSSSSSS

  • Browneyes

Thanks for the positive story. Great teachers go unnoticed because of the not so great one's. Kudo's to Ms. Taylor

  • ImWoke

No Special Education is not the answer to every black child’s issues. SPED teachers we go hard to keep our young black men out of SPED.

  • http://www.NeCola.Mayvenn.com Chile_Pleeze

you know..(well..no you don't) trying to check Auntie is futile.. please don't do not represent My SWD like that .. you do sound bitter

  • http://www.NeCola.Mayvenn.com Chile_Pleeze

    hey classmate!.....

  • https://sandrarose.com SandraRose

She was joking about giving him an 'F'.

  • Society Has Changed

Good teachers are our real heroes! But the way she swooped up on him..... ????????????

  • RealATLPeach36

I thought she said he has an F in the class not she's giving him one. Either way, his 25-year-old mom need to get him all the way together! I know it takes a billiard, but lessons start and end at home.

  • RealATLPeach36

No, it's not the answer but if it's required then its there. So many parents nevermind the race! Need to give their kids what is required and stop worrying about race and what everyone has to say. That's my point ImWoke.

  • https://sandrarose.com SandraRose

She was joking. The school year just started. He doesn't have an F in her class.

  • KLo

    Teacher showed him

  • Rodmilla De Ghent

    push thru sis!

  • SumthinSweeter

This was so awesome to read... I'm gonna go follow her on the gram. :)

  • ShWa

Awesome!!! And her new baby is pure juicy cuteness:)

  • ShWa

Awesome!!! And her new baby is pure juicy cuteness:)

  • ImWoke

As a special educator, research has proven that African American males are referred to SPED more than anyone else. FACT. A lot of the time it’s not SPED services that is required. It’s someone to give them just a little extra academic assistance. I’ve rarely met a parent that cares what anyone else has to say about their child, but I have met some that insist that their child not be dismissed so that they can continue to get their SSI check. Point received RealATLPeach36

  • KLove

I got a thing for teachers/educators....when Dugans on Flat Shoals used to be open, i used to live to go on the day school let out for any type of break...teachers used to be in there heavy....she prolly was there a few times herself being that its right around the corner from SWD LOL

  • Floriduhh Evans

Awesome!! Thank you for all you do...shout to ALL the GOOD educators out there changing lives ????

  • RealATLPeach36

Well, I’m not sure what school, country and or state you ’re teaching but I’m an ex-teacher (8 years), and it’s the BLACK community that cares! WE are the ones that care about our children being labeled. So my opinion which in my cases facts...Baltimore and Fulton county was very hard. NOT saying black parents as a whole but majority in MY situation NOT YOURS..but hey good luck to you...I’m one of the ones that said fuk this...it was too much... I was a
teacher/mom/referee/sister-girl/pastor/tutor/psychologist too many hats for me..I'm speaking AS a matter of fact...

FYI: Babies can’t wait programs full of white kids but black parents as a majority were like nawww he/she is good when he/she was not.

  • ImWoke

I never said black parents didn’t care. I said black parents don’t care about labels. Of course the black community cares about children being placed in SPED if there are other less restrictive options. I Agree with you. That’s why I fought like He** to keep those that didn’t belong out. I’m not here to argue with you. I was simply replying to your post. Congratulations on all of the hats that you’ve worn and continue to wear. I salute you. I’ve taught in many states. Last stop GA relatively close to Fulton (23 years). Best wishes to you as well.
