Tyler Perry played Santa Claus by paying off $434,000 worth of layaways at Walmart for holiday shoppers. Tyler announced his generosity on social media.
Tyler posted a video telling followers that if they had layaways at two Walmart stores in suburban Atlanta by Dec. 6 at 9:30 a.m., they would only have to pay a penny to pick their items up.
“I have paid for all of your layaways for Christmas. So, Merry Christmas to everybody!” he said with a smile.
Tyler originally planned to remain anonymous, but that would defeat the joy of giving.
The “Madea” creator said he knew people were going through “hard times” and were “struggling” but he said he was grateful to be able to help them.
Tyler is known for his generosity and benevolence, especially around the holidays.
The 49-year-old New Orleans native, born Emmitt Perry Jr., is one of the highest paid men in entertainment, earning over $130 million in one year between 2010 and 2011.
As a young boy, Tyler lived a hardscrabble life with his parents Willie Maxine Perry and Emmitt Perry Sr. He once said his father’s only form of discipline was to “beat it out of you.”
At age 16, he changed his name from Emmitt to Tyler to put distance between himself and his father.
A DNA test later revealed Emmitt was not Tyler’s biological father.
God bless. what wonderful thng to do during the Holidays!
Such a blessing??.
Tyler…I got some student loans if you want to help a sister out…
A nice jester… I like Tyler
This is why Tyler(whom I turned down working on one of his projects) is so successful. He GIVES BACK in clever thoughtful ways.
What a blessing for those people.
Tyler and the 6 or 7 others who’ve done this, this year are spreading joy
Am I the only one kinda proud of our people’s being so kind during this xmas season? Warms my heart, wish I could do something major as a blessing to somebody other than my kids…….
Tyler originally planned to remain anonymous, but that would defeat the joy of giving.
No it doesn’t. Matthew 6:4 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Now, let me throw some stuff in layaway here in Chicago, maybe Chance or Ye will follow suit…LOL
You just turning down offers like that huh??
Hursh…….lol
now THIS is what i call giving back….damn a turkey drive LOL…he stepped up in a big way…..a lot of these celebs pay a lot of lip service and give nothing back….props to Tyler Perry
HA!HAAAAAAAAAAAAA wit yo petty aZZ

DAmn… so Walmart in the US does layaway?
I remember when i was young my mom used to do layaway at Kmart and make us put down at $10 or $20 here and there. That’s when i realized we were poor.
Tyler my bank account number is __________.
Lord… please allow Tyler Perry to read this thread and feel the need to pay SunRiseBlossom’s student loans off… that would be a WONDERFUL “LIFE” present for me!!! I am trusting in the Lord that it is so… AMEN!!!
That is delightful.. next year the amount of sht on layaway is going to triple ??
RIGHT… Tyler is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol

ME 2…LOL
Tyler is all right with me ?. He truly cares for people.
Lol
I wish they had men like this back when I would use layaway at Kmart.. Good for him..
I LOVE TYLER PERRY!!!!
Are you kicking yourself.
Reminds me of this young company that had contract agreements with the HUGE media company that I worked for in the mid-80’s.
They were NEW and unproven, the commute too far. If I had LISTENED to my HEART instead of my HEAD I could be LYING in the sun on my own private beach right now.
The company was AOL and ALL of the employees from that era are MILLIONAIRES.
Tyler is a class act, imagine struggling to make ends meet, putting a 75” flat screen on layawayaway that you never needed then you show up with your time and a half check to get said tv out and TYLA done paid it.
It wasn’t the right choice for me.
Go Tyler. I love this.
It wasn’t meant to be.
come upstairs … new post cavity b showed up to court
I’m with you Sun!
That was beautiful of him to do?
Side note, Michelle Williams broke up with her disrespectful gay fiancé

DISRESPECTFUL GHEY FIANCÉ
!!!
I’m just saying. LOL. Me too.
Loves Tyler ???
Lol Girl that man is definitely apart of the village people.
Would be so much more meaningful if it wasn’t for publicity. So great when people do these things anonymously , and not for attention.
I know. I always tell me son “almost” is one of the saddest words in the English language. Have a good weekend and be blessed.
Disrespectful Gay PASSING FOR WHITE Fiance.
Michelle, you are a member of an iconic history making female music group. Know your worth, know you are worthy, and then watch earnest and sincere love find you.
Say it ain’t so!
I’ve only read nice things about this man and can honestly say I would love to meet him one day. Great job Tyler!
Love Mr. Perry too.
May he and his family have a blessed Christmas.
Amen.
fake bullshit charity
He’s AWESOME. Never forgets what circumstances he came from.
Telling him he has been celibate for too long when he said he wants entertain lots of people in the home instead of entertaining her alone at home with him. That meant he dont even wanna bone his own wife. He would rather be with other people.
It only comes around at Christmas. Sept-Dec
Sometimes just being kind to a strange is BIG…HUGE. You have no idea how many people out there are thinking about ending their lives.
Likewise!
??
Awsome! But when folks do stuff like this…it makes me wish I was part of it……to receive the blessings……a girl can hope : }
Yes indeed
Awesome!!!
Nice gesture!
No argument here.
Did you know guys have to offer up their rear ends to get movie roles from him?
Ijs… He’s putting black artists to work left and right when others aren’t. Kool must have it goin on to not jump on that opportunity ?
It aint like he bout movie tickets to Black panther…this is stuff under the tree!
Facts… i have a great job…but would STILL jump on that opportunity
Yep this was dope of him
Me too!
Lol…
That’s super dope, can you go to great lakes or sallie mae and help the girls out with student loans? Hell if you come up with half! I’m good.
Why im never a recipient of these good deeds going around?
Very nice indeed!
He’s ghey for real?
GOOD DEED, I call faul…. it’s only for tax purposes. …I am sure I will catch some flack, but open your eyes…..
That’s not tax deductie (and even if it was then it depends on your AGI and if you itemize or whatnot etc,) because Walmart is not a charitable organization but good try.
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/cda4925ca1d357264787be9b5ccd589f4b0940cb9442847e1840c0a193a331e3.gif
People, with finances will understand what I’m saying, no disrespect, but if you give money, to a charity, event, company, or organization, you will get a tax break…..I know this because, I am a financial manager, for a fortune 500 company. ……
It is very important to be a giver, even tho, it can be very difficult to do so! People will turn you into some kind of prey for your kindness.
I commend Tyler Perry for always giving!
I stand in agreement
Can you write off the entire amount or just a portion?
Lol. Financial managers don’t prepare tax returns, obviously. Only 501(c)(3) organizations are qualified charitable organizations per the IRS. Walmart isn’t and neither or the hundreds of recipients of his generosity. Lol I hope you don’t do your company’s taxes cause y’all getting audited ?
If you have to ANNOUNCE IT ON SOCIAL MEDIA it just negated everything you did….smh
There’s always someone who has to be the Debbie Downer. Folks can’t let anyone just do something decent. The people who got their things paid for don’t give a crap if he got a tax break or not. Dang. If he wanted a tax credit for a charitable donation he didn’t need to drive to two Walmarts to do it. He could have written a big check to Make a Wish, had an assitant mail it and sat at home.
There is nothing to snark on here (although I know some will try). That’s a really kind gesture that is going to be a blessing to a lot of people. Tyler has a long track record of being generous and charible. He’s one of the few people who grew up poor and never forgot that once he became rich. He’s always doing something nice for people like paying off mortgages and bills, renting and furnishing apartments for families he saw on the news that were homeless or struggling, etc., etc. I believe it comes from the heart.
The only thing foul here is the attempts at shade. He didn’t announce it on SM. He did do it anonymously. People there said he was trying to be low key. Everyone these days is always taking pics and talking. TMZ reported it. Tyler then went and confirmed and told people their stuff was already paid for. Just be happy some people are going to have one less financial strain for the holidays and stop trying to find fault. Knowing their bill was paid for probably saved some folk some worry while at work.
Wait, then who is his father?! Generous man! Love his spirit and need to fulfill tax writeoffs. Smart man.
It’s complicated. You have to be creative and it’s legal. Please look into it.
I’m sure, being the business woman you are, you know, it is a percentage. You can write off for tax purposes. ….
No disrespect, but I still have a grasp on Tax Law, hell at 44 I’m still paying for it….Don’t be fooled. … sleep on that……
What a blessing! He’s a good man.
Thank you, just look at your President, the ones before him, and all the prominent business men, and women, through history……. That is what most people won’t tell you….The ones in the know, keep it to themselves. …

He could have chosen a generic charity but he chose to do something that will directly impact people in need. I say God bless him and all the families that he helped.

Granted, but please , and you and I have always been cool on this site, so no disrespect , do some research. ….

Agreed. You really have to try hard to find fault with this story. When you give to a big charity people who are in need today aren’t going to get help for awhile, if at all. Paying off those bills is going to help people right away in a way that will directly affect their holiday and fincances.
Damn if you do, damn if you don’t. Regardless If it was for tax purposes or not, he still was able to bless many. Good job Tyler! What have you done to bless others?
And also you are correct Wal-Mart, is not, But the families that use layaway is……
It all depends on how crafty the accountant is
But either way he’s helping many , and helping himself. I’m an accountant for a Fortune 500 company as well. Question where is the wrong in what he did?
You may deduct charitable contributions of money or property made to qualified organizations if you itemize your deductions. Generally, you may deduct up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income, but 20 percent and 30 percent limitations apply in some cases.
That was for Sushi but I think that person is being silly. He doesn’t get a deduction for that though. Just publicity and goodwill I guess.
Families that use layaway are not charitable organizations. The IRS personal exemption amount per person is $15k which means he can give that amount to anyone without reporting it or filing a gift tax return.
And not everyone who uses layaway is in need/ I used to use it just as a convenience to hide things away from my little ones.
No, he did not pay a bill, and again no disrespect, but what he did was pay for a Christmas gift, or gifts, for people, that was struggling to begin with, to give something to their kids, when the Parent is struggling to keep a roof over there heads, food in the belly , lights on, water bill due…… just to be “Happy” for 1, ONE day…… Think about it…. It’s all commercial. …..
Hence my point………Thank you. …..
That’s not a charitable deduction though. You can’t write that off.
Hmm I’ve always thought he played for the other team. Something just didn’t seem right about him.
Nothing is wrong in what He did, but what, do you need a cookie. … Not you but him….. He has not done anything out of the ordinary, that anyone would have done if the had the financial means to do so….
True indeed , but it wasn’t him that broadcasted the good deed. He just gave confirmation of the deed.
Actually you can………Sorry to say it but yes you can, there are loop holes……
Okay.
True, but why? He should have said none if it came from the Right Place… How do I know, I have done it, no one but GOD him/herself knew I did it, I don’t get the Glory……….At no point….
True….
I can’t even begin to argue that……. But what does that say about US…..? As a race, , as a people of the Most High?…
Lol if that’s what you need to tell yourself go ahead but it’s not true. Atually, he went to Walmart and paid off the balance of layaway accounts leaving only one cent on each account. You don’t know what people had on layaway. People could have had a vacuum, microwave or some other necessities they needed even if they don’t have kids. He isn’t the first person to do this. It’s a nice gesture. You are way too invested in trying to find something wrong here.
Much love my friend, ” in my head”. ..
Only he can answer that. That’s why we’re all different and move differently. Just because you don’t agree, with his move doesn’t mean it didn’t come from a good place.
Lol you are being ridiculous. Every rich person and celebrity has the means to do what he did but they all don’t. The vast majority do not.
You can’t begin to argue because you don’t have a valid point. None of this says anything about us as a race or people. If you’re assuming black pekoe are the only people who use layaway you need to broaden your horizons and stop believing the b.s. perpetuated by the media about black people. Your views only say something about you and it’s concerning. Take care. Enjoy your holiday and try to see the brighter side of things.
What a fine example of a man – the world thanks you!
I’m not going to dispute any of
What you just stated. He helped a lot of families. ….. I am not trying or looking for a way to put him in a bad light, hell my parents did it for me, so I know they would have been great full for the blessing…… But let me say this…….. I, let me say it again, I understand, that he gave…. He will get back not only a portion, of what he gave, but good PR…….
They do, You are ridiculous, and I’m sorry, slow….. there are a plethora of stories that come out during this time of year, where peole, and celebrities do it…… Please wake up my friend. …He is not the first……With all do respect…..
So what if he did? Tyler doesn’t need the PR because he already has a long track record of doing good deeds for people. He’s known for it. Like I said already, even if he needed a tax credit he could have gotten it other ways that were not as impactful for people. So this discussion is pointless and unproductive. I’m done with it. I really do hope you have a good holiday and enjoy yourself. Good night. ?
Take care sis. Bye.
And not once did I say, it did not……
Night, much love….
Night, friend in my head” I look at things from all sides, am I perfect no…. I pray that you will not judge my view of things, and that could be hello wrong…. much love….
He is amazing!!
Amazing!!
That was very nice of Tyler!… May God continue to bless and use him!
now this is news http://DoPartTimeJob.com/?user=1260619 great job TP
Much respect for this brotha!! He so rich that he could EASILY not give AF. But he does and doesn’t even want credit. People can say what they want about him, but he has a good heart and cares for the people
Not true. He was trying to be subtle, BUT someone TOLD. so he made a public announcement so people would go pick up their stuff and not get scammed AND also so people would know that if you missed the deadline (9:30), it doesn’t apply to you.
You do realize that a tax write off doesn’t exempt you FROM PAYING TAXES all together smh.
Exactly. It’s always some bum that’s online talking shit. Let this man be great and spend HIS money however the fuq he wants
Never said that, but ok…..smh…..
Facts. And all that money would likely not have gone to the people if he had chosen a charity. They have overhead etc. This was MAJOR, and I don’t understand the criticism. It’s like folks WANT TO BE MAD
Didn’t say that you did. I’m just letting you know that EVEN if it was for a tax write off, it doesn’t mean that he gets to avoid taxes. What was your point of saying that?
But it was not about avoiding taxes, and I have a business degree in accounting and business management degree so you don’t have to tell me that, but thank you….
But it was not about avoiding taxes, and I have a business degree in accounting and business management degree so you don’t have to tell me that, but thank you….
GOD BLESS HIM!!
Girl my gaydar goes haywire when I see him.
LMBO!!!!!!!!!!!!
