Singer R. Kelly was arrested while attending a child support hearing at the Daley Center on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 in Chicago, Illinois. Kelly, 52, was taken into custody in court for $160,000 in unpaid child support, according to NBC News.
His publicist Darryll Johnson stood in front of reporters as Kelly was transferred to the Cook County jail.
Jonson told reporters Kelly would remain in jail until he comes up with the money. He said Kelly offered to pay between $50,000 – $60,000 and even asked the judge to set up a payment plan – but his request was denied and the judge remanded him into custody.
Kelly was previously arrested last month on 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse. A friend put up $100,000 – 10% of his $1 million bond.
His next court appearance is set for March 13. He will need to pay $161,633 to his ex-wife Drea Kelly by then.
Kelly’s arrest comes after he sat down with Gayle King for an explosive 80-minute interview, parts of which aired Wednesday on CBS This Morning.
