Remy Ma is back home with her husband, Papoose, and infant daughter after she was released from jail on $1,500 bail on Wednesday, May 1. The 38-year-old rapper was arrested on Wednesday after she turned herself in to police on a felony assault charge of punching Love & Hip Hop co-star Brittney Taylor.
Brittney, who starred in Love & Hip Hop: NY season 8, posted video of her black on her Instagram page after allegedly being attacked by Remy earlier this month.
Remy mocked Brittney by posting Instagram photos that showed her wearing an ankle monitor (above). A judge was not amused, and issued an arrest warrant.
Remy’s attorney, Dawn Florio, disputed the charge, claiming there is video that exonerates his troubled client. Florio says the video is proof that Remy was at home with her family when Taylor was brutally attacked.
The judge warned Remy that she was treading on thin ice, and imposed a protective order that prohibits Remy from having any contact with Brittney. Remy must also abide by a strict 8 p.m. curfew, meaning she must be inside her home before the street lights come on.
Remy is no stranger to New York’s prison system. She served seven years in prison for shooting Makeda Barnes-Joseph outside a Manhattan nightspot in 2007. She was convicted of the lesser charges of assault and illegal weapon possession in March 2008 and released from prison in 2015.
The judge noted that Remy, who was born Reminisce Smith, showed no remorse for the shooting since she rifled through the victim’s purse looking for stolen money, after shooting the victim in the abdomen.
If Remy is convicted of the assault charge she will be sent back to prison as a repeat violent offender felon.
