Lil Nas X has come under attack on social media as anti-homosexual social media followers react to the rapper coming out of the closet on Sunday, the final day of a full month of Gay Pride events.

The viral country music/ trap rapper declared his sexual preference in a series of social media posts on Sunday.

On Sunday, the 20-year-old directed his 1.3 million Twitter followers to listen closely to “C7osure,” one of the tracks on his recently released EP 7 album.

“some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone [gonna] fwm [f–k with me] no more. but before this month ends i want y’all to listen closely to c7osure,” he tweeted.

It was all too much for country music fans – many of whom were fans of his viral hit song “Old Town Road”. The track broke a record for the longest-running No. 1 hip-hop song on Billboard this week.

The rapper’s Twitter followers were initially supportive of his chosen lifestyle, but country music purists flamed his timeline with hateful tweets.

“deadass thought i made it obvious,” Nas wrote in a follow-up Tweet that featured images of his rainbow cover art.

The onslaught continued on Monday, as many of his followers threatened to stop listening to his music because it didn’t sound the same.

Nas, who is in Paris, addressed the haters, saying, “I apologize for my actions. hope you find a better role model” and “i’m as gay as a joke.”

On Monday night, as the backlash continued, Nas appeared to retreat back into the closet. He tweeted: “just cuz i’m gay don’t mean i’m not straight”.

And on Tuesday he wrote a cryptic tweet, “just got news that i’m gay and i will no longer be streaming my music. i’m sorry that shit is just not ok.”
