“Hurricane” Dave Smith was fired as VP of programming and operations at Urban One Atlanta amid #MeToo allegations, according to an inside source. Smith’s duties at Urban One Atlanta included overseeing syndication operations for Rickey Smiley and others as well as radio stations in Raleigh, Charlotte and Richmond, according to AJC’s TV & Radio Talk.
Urban One Atlanta’s stations includes Hot 107.9, Classix 102.9, Praise 102.5 and Majic 107.5/97.5.
According to Kevin Ross at Radio Facts, there was an “unspecified misunderstanding” that led to Smith’s dismissal.
Smith was operations manager for the stations and PD of Hot from 2009 to 2016 before he was promoted to vice president. He stayed as program director of Hot even after the promotion, Rodney Ho reports.
Jamon “Jay Tek” Perry will serve as interim Hot 107.9 Program Director. “We’ll make some decisions soon,” Davies said.
