Pastor John Gray did not receive an “eviction notice” as was reported by multiple news outlets. Gray’s publicist reached out to Sandrarose.com on Monday to deny reports that Gray’s Relentless Church received an eviction notice from church landlords, Ron and Hope Carpenter.
According to Gray’s publicist, the Carpenters sent Gray a notice terminating the oral lease for two properties occupied by the church in Greenville, SC.
In his response, Gray’s attorneys noted that the leases are all paid up. The lawyers are in possession of a direct message that Hope Carpenter allegedly sent to someone on Facebook.com. The lawyers said the DM makes “very serious defamatory statements” about Gray.
Hope reportedly calls Pastor Gray “a shady man” and “dishonest”. She allegedly said Pastor Gray and Relentless “are 3 to 4 months behind in all the bills” and “[w]e (Hope and Ron) will be taking our church back… We are very excited to have our campus back but we are very sad John Gray has not lived up to his end of the bargain.”
Gray’s attorneys dispute Carpenter’s allegations, saying:
“The exact opposite is true. Pastor Gray and Relentless have gone above and beyond the original transfer terms to make this work. It is Ron Carpenter and Redemption Church who could no comply with the transfer agreement.”
The law firm also said a church the size of Relentless can not possibly “move in 30 days, especially when the rent is current. Could it be the author threat of eviction on a 30-day notice is rally so the Carpenters can do exactly what Hope has outlined in her Facebook DM? I sincerely hope not.”
Below is the letter from Gray’s publicist.

Hi Sandra,
I hope all is well. Reaching out regarding your headline “John Gray’s Relentless Church Faces Eviction for Not Paying Rent” mentioning my client- along with the first sentence of your story. It’s false.
There is absolutely no eviction notice. They have not been served with an eviction notice and they are current with every financial obligation as outlined by the leases they are under.
A termination letter referencing a verbal agreement was sent. The letter did not however reference the actual signed lease agreement in which Redemption/ Ron Carpenter are in violation of not honoring nor did it state the notice was concerning failure to pay. Again, Relentless is current with both of their leases.
Please see attached the termination letter and the legal response to the termination letter and please edit your headline and story to reflect the truth of the situation.
Thank you
