Music producer DJ Toomp shared his opinion on Kanye West‘s long-awaited 10th studio album, Donda.
The renowned producer expressed his disappointment in the album, named for Kanye’s late mother, Donda West.
DJ Toomp was in attendance during Kanye’s first Donda listening party at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium on July 22.
Like many disappointed Kanye fans, Toomp was particularly irked by the lack of drums or percussion on any of the tracks.
“I hope the album doesn’t sound like this,” Toomp said during an interview with Big High ATL.
“If I was in the studio with ‘Ye, I’d say ‘Is this shit gonna drop anywhere? Cause you build us up and we thinkin’ that shit finna go crazy but right when you think a beat’s gonna drop, that shit go to another song. That’s why I was like ‘This album must not be finished.'”

DJ Toomp previously worked with Kanye on his Graduation album (2007), producing the tracks “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” and “Good Life” (featuring T-Pain).
The 51-year-old Atlanta DJ also produced hits for rappers T.I. (pictured), Young Jeezy, Ludacris, Pitbull and Jay Z, among others.
Toomp is eager to work with Kanye to improve the Donda album — but he has not heard from his old pal, who moved into the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on July 23 to finish the album.
“I would really love to help him put that album together. I want to hear some more lyrics, man. Definitely beats. But as far as the artist, I want to hear lyrics. Where that shock value at that he usually brings, ya know?”
Toomp said the album doesn’t sound like a personal tribute to Kanye’s mom.
“He just got out of a divorce, so there’s a few things that he wanna pour out personally on that album. It may be a real personal album. If you naming this Donda after your moms, where’s that mom record at that’s gonna make every n***a whose mom ain’t here no more feel like it’s their favorite shit on the album.”
