Actress Tika Sumpter married her fiancé, actor Nicholas James, during an intimate wedding ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on Saturday, May 15.
According to Brides magazine, Tika, 42, wore a strapless wedding gown with a flowing veil by Gala Lahav, while Nicholas, 38, wore a light blue suit designed by Franc Milton.
Tika captioned her wedding photo on Instagram:
“I got to marry my best friend yesterday. My heart is so full. Friends and family are everything. All involved made a girl’s dream come true. Excited to have @brides feature our story…”
The couple share 5-year-old daughter Ella-Loren. They first met as co-stars on the OWN Network TV drama The Haves and the Have Nots in 2015.
“We’re excited to be together and continue the journey,” Tika told Brides. “We both walked down the aisle with clear eyes, knowing that the wedding wasn’t just for the party. It was really for us.”
Tika confirmed her engagement during an appearance on daytime talk show The Real in January 2017.
Without naming her fiancé at the time, Tika described how he proposed to her.
“He did all of these amazing things. I went on a little hunt in the house. And I was like, ‘Oh, he’s going to propose’… It was a Peloton bike he bought me. I was like, ‘Oh, that’s cool!’ And then he had a letter behind Ella and he’s like, ‘Ella has something to say to you.’ And it was just this letter of beauty. And then he proposed. It was just simple and just awesome.”
In March, Tika wrote a tribute to Nicholas on Instagram:
“Y’all have no idea the amount of love, patience, kindness, care and understanding this guy has shown me. So grateful for you. Grateful for therapy. Grateful that you’re my person.”
