Charlotte Hornets star Miles Bridges was arrested Wednesday and charged with felony domestic violence in Los Angeles.
According to TMZ, Bridges turned himself in to police on Wednesday, after a woman called 911 to report he assaulted her.
The woman had visible injuries when police arrived at a Los Angeles residence, but Bridges was already gone. He was released from jail after posting $130,000 bond, TMZ reports.
Bridges made headlines earlier this week after ESPN reported the Hornets declined to offer him a max contract.
Bridges is a restricted free agent who demanded $30 million per season in a max contract after turning down a four-year, $60 million deal just prior to the start of his breakout 2021-22 season.
Bridges is the team’s leading scorer. However, the Hornets are reportedly wary of re-signing a player who may be a junkie.
According to Total Pro Sports, Bridges’ actions off the court made it easier for the Hornets to make their decision.
“The 24-year-old Charlotte Hornets player posted on his Instagram Stories featuring a joint and a styrofoam cup with pink/purple-ish colored liquid inside,” according to Total Pro Sports.
Bridges captioned a June 6 tweet “Pink lemonade” before deleting it.
Lean, also called purple drank, is a mixture of prescription codeine cough syrup, a soft drink and hard candy in a styrofoam cup.
“He’s not being offered, from what I’m told, a max contract from the Charlotte Hornets right now,” said Brian Windhorst via ESPN. “So, he’s going to go out into the market place, starting on Thursday or Friday, and see if he can get that offer from somewhere else.”
Trouble seems to follow the Flint, Michigan native. Bridges was ejected for hitting a young fan in the face with his mouthguard during a game against the Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena on April 13, 2022 in Atlanta.
