A baggage handler died when her hair became entangled in a conveyor belt while offloading a Frontier flight in Louisiana on Tuesday night.

Jermani Thompson, 26, was killed in a freak accident at approximately 10:20 p.m. at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans, according to reports.

Thompson was offloading baggage from a Frontier flight after it landed when her hair became tangled in the conveyor belt loader.

She was rushed to a local hospital and pronounced dead. The tragic incident led to Frontier canceling one flight Wednesday.

Thompson was a contract worker for GAT Airline Ground Support which has a contract with Louis Armstrong Airport.

“What we know so far is that her hair became entangled with the machinery of the belt loader,” GAT CEO Mike Hough told ABC News. “We are heartbroken and are supporting her family and her friends as best as we are able.”

Her grieving mom told Nola.com that Thompson was a talented basketball player, who played for Hesston College in Kansas and Tougaloo College in Mississippi.

“We extend our deepest condolences following the tragic death of a member of our ground handling business partner,” an airline spokesperson told Nola.com in a statement.

“Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
