Billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos (pictured), is back on the market.
The New York Times reports that Scott filed a petition for divorce Monday in King County Superior Court in Washington state.
Scott, 52, received a record $35.6 billion in stock from Bezos, 58, following their much-publicized divorce in 2019. They share 4 children.
She married her second husband, Dan Jewett, in early 2021 after her net worth soared to $65 billion. She was named the richest woman in the world in 2020.
Jewett was a chemistry teacher at Lakeside School, a private school that Scott’s children attended in the Seattle area.
Scott filed for divorce after Jewett began quietly removing his name from social media posts and a website about his wife’s charitable donations.
Jewett had signed on to Scott’s commitment to give away at least half of her wealth in charitable donations in her lifetime and after she dies.
“I am married to one of the most generous and kind people I know — and joining her in a commitment to pass on an enormous financial wealth to serve others,” Jewett wrote on Scott’s Giving Pledge site where they first announced their marriage.
Now, Scott’s Giving Pledge page contains a new headshot of her and no mention of Jewett.
In addition to donating about $12 billion to 465 nonprofits, she also donated two Beverly Hills mansions worth about $55 million to the California Community Foundation, a Los Angeles-area charity.
She is currently worth $27.8 billion after the recent Amazon stock split, according to Bloomberg.
