Former L.A. City Council president Nury Martinez resigned her seat on the City Council on Wednesday after President Biden ordered her to step down.
Martinez resigned as City Council president on Monday, Oct. 10, after the L.A. Times published audio of her and other councilmembers making racist and anti-Semitic comments.
She fully resigned from the City Council on Wednesday, after new audio was published by The Times on Tuesday morning.
In the new audio, Martinez referred to Jewish colleagues as “the Jews” and said “they’re going to screw us all.”
Biden ordered Martinez to step down and he called for the other councilmembers on the leaked audio to step down.
“It is with a broken heart that I resign my seat for Council District 6, the community I grew up in and my home,” Martinez said in a statement Wednesday.
