New details have emerged in the violent attack on the elderly husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Friday.

Mr. Pelosi, 82, made a secret phone call to 911 after David DePape allegedly broke into his $6 million home in the exclusive Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco, CA. around 2:30 a.m. Friday.

Pelosi told the 911 dispatcher that a man was in his house waiting for his wife. Pelosi said he didn’t know who the man was, but his name was “David” and he was “a friend.”

The 911 operator heard Mr. Pelosi say, “What’s going on? Why are you here? What are you doing to me?”.

DePape reportedly yelled, “Where’s Nancy? Where’s Nancy?”

The dispatcher declared a “code 3” emergency rather than a “wellness check” which would have delayed police response.

She told officers, “He states there is a male in the home and that he is going to wait for his wife. He stated that he doesn’t know who the male is but that his name is David and that he is a friend. He sounded somewhat confused.”

The police arrived within 2 minutes. Someone inside the home opened the front door for them, but police didn’t enter the house immediately. They stood outside and observed both Pelosi and DePape struggling over a hammer.

DePape, 42, and Pelosi were in their underwear. Police observed DePape snatch the hammer away from Mr. Pelosi and beat him in the head with it. Police then tackled DePape and placed him under arrest.

Both men were transported to a hospital for treatment. Pelosi was rushed into surgery to control bleeding on his brain from a fractured skull.

Police say DePape smashed a glass door at the back of the house to gain entry. News helicopter footage shows broken glass doors at the back of the property. the glass appeared to be broken from the inside.

It isn’t clear how Mr. Pelosi knew DePape’s name or why he told the 911 dispatcher that DePape was “a friend.”
