The Mars Candy Company is replacing its M&M’s spokescandies with Maya Rudolph amid the backlash to its new “female only” M&M’s packaging.

If you recall, the drama started in 2015 when Mars implied that the two female spokescandies were in a same-sex relationship.

The backlash escalated last January after Mars made drastic changes to the shoes of the two female candies. The brown candy switched her pumps for kitten heels while the green candy swapped her go-go boots for sneakers.
The company also added a new purple candy — a female that wore combat boots.

The changes were part of Mars Candy’s efforts to be more diverse and inclusive.
After Fox News host Tucker Carlson slammed the new “female only” candy packaging, Mars announced that Saturday Night Live veteran Maya Rudolph would replace all of the M&Ms spokescandies.
Rudolph will debut as M&M’s new spokeswoman during the 2023 Super Bowl.
“We are confident Ms. Rudolph will champion the power of fun to create a world where everyone feels they belong,” Mars said.
