A Gatorade commercial featuring a Stacey Abrams look-a-like is receiving backlash on Twitter.
One Twitter user was disappointed that Gatorade chose to feature a morbidly obese Black woman working out, while also featuring a fit, skinny white woman in the same ad.
The Twitter user wrote:
“I, a fit, healthy Black woman, am not feeling this Gatorade Fit commercial at all. I mean, did someone tell marketing that this is the average Black woman’s physique? That this is what a healthy BW looks like?
I am appalled. And no, this isn’t fat shaming. This is BS.”

The response to her tweet was mixed. One person noted that there are healthy obese people, as well as unhealthy skinny people.
Another person said, “Gatorade is just riding the Lizzo band wagon.”
While a third person wrote: “Could it be possible that this ad depicts an overweight woman on a journey to become fit.”
Watch the ad below.
I’m not debating who is and who isn’t healthy.
My point is: why not include plus size white models? Why just the Black woman?

I love Lizzo – she’s doing great things for body positivity.
I’m just not cool with this ad.

It could be that, of course.
Honestly, tho, it’s not her size, is what she represents. Why not use a plus-size model to represent white women?
