A 25-year-old aspiring rapper, who was acquitted of double murder last month, is charged with double murder again.
Billy Bennett Adams III, who went by the rap name “Ace NH,” is accused of fatally shooting his pregnant girlfriend, Alana Sims and her unborn child. The shooting occurred in front of her minor son.
Sims, an Instagram model, was found dead next to her SUV in a Tampa subdivision on Jan. 30. Her young son was found strapped in his car seat and unharmed.
Police say Sims, 22, was lured to the scene under the pretense that she and Adams were going to celebrate his acquittal.
Adams told police he was at home at the time of the murder. But his vehicle was spotted on the community’s video surveillance system entering the subdivision at approximately the same time as Sims.
Adams, who was arrested on Feb. 15 in Tampa, told police he shot his pregnant girlfriend in self-defense.
However, police say Adams killed Sims after she told him her unborn child was his, but he was adamant that he was not the father.
Just three days earlier, on Jan. 27, a jury acquitted Adams of killing two men during a dispute in a Florida recording studio in November 2020.
He was charged with two counts of premeditated first-degree murder and burglary. But the jury was not convinced that he was a murderer.
Adams also claimed self-defense in the first double murder case.
“Mere days after he was acquitted of a separate crime, our homicide suspect did the unthinkable when he killed an innocent woman and her unborn child,” Interim Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said in a statement. “I hope this arrest brings some closure to the victim’s family, who is mourning the loss of two loved ones. We are working with the State Attorney’s Office to ensure the suspect is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
