Retired rapper C-Murder is on a hunger strike in a prison in Louisiana where he has been locked up for the past 21 years for murder. He is now on day 8 of his hunger strike.
In 2009, C-Murder, real name Corey Miller, was sentenced to life in prison for the January 12, 2002 fatal shooting of 16-year-old fan, Steve Thomas.
Miller announced his hunger strike in an Instagram post after his latest appeal for freedom went unheard.
“Jan. 17, 2023, marked 21 years I Corey Miller have been in the Louisiana Penal system,” he wrote.
“I have been fighting for my health and freedom against this wrongful conviction and simultaneously fighting for my constitutional rights that were stripped away and violated by the penal system of Louisiana. An appeal was filed late December of 2022 and the DA & Judge of Louisiana has 30 days from Feb. 7, 2023 to answer.”
The 51-year-old father-of-three continued:
“Because Conditions in the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center have not improved, I am engaging in a hunger strike that began on February 23rd of 2023 to bring awareness to me and all inmates’ neglected and abused at the hands of the Louisiana penal system. It is imperative, NOW MORE THAN EVER, that a quick strategic move is made as my health has significantly declined due to the prison system’s inhumane conditions and I am not getting proper medical treatment. This has taking a major toll on me but I refuse to give up. Please Stand with me.”
Miller’s three daughters, Coco, Alexis, and Chanelle, visited him in prison last month. He captioned a post:
“Today I had all three of my daughters visit me. We had so much fun together. I live for them. I changed my life because of them. We all will transition someday. Be patient while your loved one evolves.”
Miller’s R&B singer girlfriend Monica (right), pictured with Miller’s daughter Coco, recruited her friend Kim Kardashian to assist Miller with his case. So far, Kim has had no luck getting the former No Limit rapper freed from prison.
