In the upcoming Netflix film The Perfect Find, life gets complicated for a middle-aged fashion editor when she falls in love with her boss’s son.
Gabrielle Union, 50, stars as Jenna in The Perfect Find, which is based on Tia Williams’s 2016 novel, according to PEOPLE.
In the film, Union eagerly beds her boss’s son, Eric (Keith Powers), but their May-December romance threatens to derail her career when her boss finds out about their forbidden romance.
Union, who is also one of the film’s producers, tells PEOPLE she could relate to her character because she’s dated much younger men. Union is married to retired NBA star Dwyane Wade, 41.
“I’ve been Jenna time and time and time again in my adult life, a woman hitting rock bottom and having to find her way back to herself, with her soul and scruples intact,” she says. “I’ve also dated younger guys and experienced all the good, bad, ugly and indifferent that comes with that.”
Union said developing chemistry with 30-year-old Powers on screen came easy for her.
“Developing chemistry, for me, has to come from a mutual respect and general interest in wanting the best for someone,” says Union. “Kindness, consideration and respecting boundaries is the way to go.”
“I don’t subscribe to the ‘hate me to love me’ route, where the chemistry stems from a darker type of passion,” she added.
The Perfect Find also stars Alani “La La” Anthony (center), Aisha Hinds (right), Gina Torres, Janet Hubert, and DB Woodside.
The Perfect Find premieres on Netflix June 23.
