President Biden took a hard fall on stage after handing out diplomas at the Air Force Academy graduation ceremony in Colorado on Thursday.
Biden struggled to stand up, as an officer and 2 Secret Service agents rushed over to lift him to his feet.
Biden then turned and pointed to something on the stage.
The White House later confirmed Biden tripped over a sandbag on the stage, and that he was okay.
“He’s fine,” White House Communications Director Ben LaBolt tweeted after the video went viral on Twitter. “There was a sandbag on stage while he was shaking hands.”
Video of Biden’s fall trended worldwide, as Americans expressed concerns about the 80-year-old president’s mental and physical health.
The president laughed off his embarrassing fall when he arrived back at the White House on Thursday evening. “I got sandbagged,” he joked to reporters on the White House lawn.
According to reports, the tumble was Biden’s fourth in public since taking office in 2021. He also broke his foot playing with his dog in 2020.
Former President Trump, 76, commented on Biden’s fall on Thursday.
“He actually fell down?” Trump asked a reporter. “Well, I hope he wasn’t hurt,” Trump said sincerely.
