Three teenage girls convicted in the horrific 2022 fatal carjacking and dismemberment of a 73-year-old woman will serve their sentences in an adult women’s prison.
The teens, Briniyah Baker, 17, Mar’Qel Curtis, 16, and Lenyra Theophile, 16, were convicted of fatally carjacking Linda Frickey in the Mid-City area on March 21, 2022. They were each sentenced to 20 years in prison.
At a housing hearing on Monday, Dec. 18, a judge said the three girls will continue to be held at the Jetson Correctional Center in Baker.
The state of Louisiana has temporarily moved 18 women to Angola so the three teenagers can be housed separately from the adult women until they turn 18, as required by federal and state policy.
The fourth teen convicted in the case, John Honore, 18, was found guilty of second-degree murder by a unanimous jury on Nov. 27. His conviction carried a mandatory life sentence but he could be up for parole in 25 years.
Frickey was leaving her job when the four teens opened her car doors and jumped in her SUV.
The male teen dragged Frickey out of the driver’s seat, but her arm was caught in the seat belt. The teenager slammed the car door on the seat belt and drove off, dragging Frickey down the block.
A red pickup truck briefly cut off the grey SUV. As witnesses screamed for them to stop, the SUV stopped momentarily before speeding off again with Frickey still hanging from the seat belt.
Frickey was released from the seat belt when her arm was severed from her body by a utility pole.
Police found the SUV abandoned about 15 blocks away. Authorities said all four juveniles had criminal records.
