In a frantic 911 call a witness described seeing a white SUV speeding by “with a man hanging out of the car.” She says the man was thrown out of the SUV and his body landed in the street.

The witness told the 911 operator the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head, and he was “taking his last breath”.

On Tuesday, Bennett pleaded guilty to one count of violation of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act, which carried a maximum penalty of life without parole.

The prosecution proposed a 20-year-sentence with 10 years to serve in prison. As part of the plea deal, Bennett received time served for the months he spent in jail since turning himself in on Jan. 13, 2021.

Prosecutors agreed to write a letter to the state board that it will not object to his early release.

Bennett apologized in open court to the victim’s family, and his own family and friends in the courtroom.
