Cam Newton has questions about the Atlanta Falcons signing injured quarterback Kirk Cousins to a massive $180 million contract.
Newton, a free agent quarterback, stopped short of saying racism played a role in the Falcons’ decision to sign Cousins and not him.
Cousins and the Falcons agreed to a four-year, $180 million contract with $100 million guaranteed. The contract includes a $50 million signing bonus.
Newton, 34, last played for the Carolina Panthers in 2021.
Cousins, 35, suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in October.
During the latest episode of his 4th&1 podcast, Newton noted that Cousins only had one playoff win in his NFL career.
“It is extremely alarming that he only had one playoff win in 12 years … he’s coming off of an injury,” Newton said. “It’s definitely alarming to see.”

Newton said the Falcons may have chosen Cousins because he’s “quiet” off the field.
“We don’t see Kirk Cousins outside of football … It’s real quiet,” Newton said.
He added: “I think the Atlanta Falcons were trying to go for a Matt Ryan.”
Newton stopped short of saying race is the reason why he’s not playing in Atlanta.
“I can’t make it about me, but if I were to make it about me … I’m in Atlanta,” he said.
“Do I get mad, or frustrated that I see this statistic that he’s made $329 million in fully guaranteed money. F— no. Go get that money,” Newton said.
