If you bring home less than $150,000 a year in salary you may not have to pay income tax on your earnings.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick says President Donald Trump’s goal is to eliminate income tax for workers earning less than $150,000 a year.

“When the president balances the budget, his first move is going to be – he has suggested that he would like to waive taxes for people under $150,000. That’s aspirational – that when we balance the budget – and let me tell you, he’s got a plan to balance this budget,” Lutnick said in an interview with Fox News.

Lutnick said Trump will make his no tax plan possible by eliminating a trillion dollars in wasteful government spending.

Trump also plans to distribute $5,000 refund checks to 150 million Americans, as well as end taxes on tips, overtime, and on social security payments for seniors who continue to work.

Trump campaigned on abolishing the IRS, but he would have to push his plan through Congress first.

An easier goal would be to end taxes for people earning less than $150,000 a year. That would include seniors, high school students, and low income wage earners.

X users celebrated Lutnick’s comments and praised Trump, calling his tax plan a “great move” and “amazing”.
