Controversial activist Dr. Umar Rashad Ibn Abdullah-Johnson is going through hard times right now. According to The Root, Dr. Umar is pleading with his followers for money after his bank accounts were frozen.

The 50-year-old Philadelphia native took to Instagram and TikTok last week to beg his followers for money to support himself and his elderly mother.

In a livestream video, a desperate Dr. Umar explained that both his personal bank account and his business account for his Frederick Douglass Marcus Garvey Academy for boys were frozen.

He said he found out his accounts were frozen when he tried to send money to a friend who text him for help.

“Dr. Umar has access to no money right now. Because my personal account contains all of my money,” he said in the video. “So the prince of Pan Africanism, for the first time in my life, is without any digital currency.

“So, for my loyal supporters out there. For my loyal supporters, if you can spare a few dollars, so I can take care of Queen Mother Ifatunde and myself, until my bank account is frozen or cancelled so I can get my money back and open up a new account. Please hit my Apple Pay or hit my PayPal,” he said in a TikTok video.

Dr. Umar said the bank froze his accounts for “fraudulent activity,” when someone tried to hack into his accounts.

Umar’s followers were skeptical. One Instagram user wrote: “The Prince of pan africanism trust colonizers with all his money in cash? No money in an African bank? No credit cards? No family? No friends? Nothing to pawn off? No emergency stash? No savings account? Even hacked, he can walk into the bank and extract cash in person?”

Dr. Umar has been in the headlines lately for all the wrong reasons.
