Wesleyan University reportedly asked Wendy Osefo to resign from her teaching position amid insurance fraud charges.
The Nigerian-American television personality was arrested along with her lawyer husband, Eddie Osefo, on October 9. They face up to 18 felony and misdemeanor charges, including home burglary, conspiracy insurance fraud and making false statements to police.

They each posted $50,000 bond and were released from jail in Westminster, Maryland on Friday, Oct. 10.
The university, based in Middletown, Connecticut, confirmed they accepted Wendy’s resignation in a statement to “Good Morning America” on Tuesday, Oct. 14.

Wendy’s rep said the “Real Housewives of Potomac” star was not terminated. She “made the voluntary decision to step down from her role.”
“Contrary to recent media reports, Dr. Wendy Osefo was not terminated from a faculty position at Wesleyan University,” the statement said. “She formally submitted her letter of resignation prior to any public announcement made by the university.”
The Wesleyan University website still lists Wendy as a “Distinguished Visiting Professor of Sociology” teaching a course called “The Sociology of Reality TV, Colorism, and Xenophobia.”.
The Wesleyan Argus reported that Wendy was in class teaching on Oct. 8, the day before her arrest.

Wendy, 41, holds four degrees including a Bachelor’s degree in political science from Temple University and a Master of Arts degree in government from Johns Hopkins University.
She is a contributor for political website The Hill, and a former assistant professor at Johns Hopkins School of Education.
The Osefos told insurance companies their home was burglarized in April 2024 while they were on vacation in Jamaica.
They said the burglars stole designer bags and jewelry, including her diamond wedding ring.
The couple filed insurance claims with three separate insurance companies including Traveler’s Insurance ($25,000 payout); Homesite Insurance ($423,000), and Jewelers Mutual (payout for 57 “stolen” aitems).
Wendy and Eddie allegedly failed to tell the insurance companies of the separate payouts.
Investigators determined the couple lied about “stolen” luxury items that were actually returned to stores for refunds.
Wendy posted a photo on Instagram that showed her wearing her wedding ring that she claimed was stolen during the robbery.
The wedding ring in the image matched appraisal photos that were submitted for the insurance claim.
Investigators also submitted into evidence an email from Eddie to Wendy asking if they could add “more high-value items like Chanel shoes” to the insurance claim to reach their maximum policy payout of $423,000.
Wendy was slated to appear in a new Bravo crossover show, “Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition,” on October 14.
However, the show has since been pulled from the programming schedule.
