A Durham, North Carolina jury found Brenay Kennard liable for stealing Akira Montague’s husband Tim Montague. North Carolina is among a handful of states that allow jilted women to sue their husbands’ mistresses for alienation of affection.

Akira Montague’s civil complaint, filed in May 2024 with Durham County Superior Court, accused Brenay of seducing her husband, Tim Montague, causing him to violate their wedding vows.
Brenay and Tim are now man and wife.
The jury awarded Akira $1.5 million for alienation of affection and $250,000 for “criminal conversation.”
As she left the courthouse, Brenay reportedly said Akira will never receive the money.

Brenay allegedly cheated on her then-husband, Devon, with his cousin, Tim.
“She has received justice from losing her husband and the father of her children,” said attorney Robonetta Jones, who represented Akira Montague.
