A woman was shot by carjackers who stole her Chevy Camaro sports car outside her gated Sandy Springs community on Wednesday night, Channel 2 Action News reports. Police recovered the stolen car on Roswell Road and impounded the vehicle.
Israr Shah said an armed gunman approached him and his wife, Monique Lassiter, outside of their apartment at the Lodge Apartments on Roswell Road.
“All of the sudden this guy came with a bandana on his face holding a gun,” Shah told Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik. “He asked us to get on the floor.”
Shah said he thought the man was joking at first.
“I told him calm down. ‘What do you need, just tell me?’ He said, ‘I need money, go get it, it’s in the car.’ ‘I don’t have anything in my pocket,’” Shah said.
Shah said his wife fought back when the gunman demanded her purse. “She said, ‘I’m not gonna give you my purse,” he said. Shah tried to stop the carjacking when the gunman’s accomplice showed up. That’s when Shah said he heard gunfire.
“All of a sudden he just shot, and the bullet passed by me,” he said. “I was completely shocked by what happened. The second shot, he shot my wife.”
Shah said he let go of the car door handle when his wife was shot. He said his wife was shot in the abdomen and the bullet continued into her leg. She’s in stable condition at North Fulton Hospital in Roswell, police said.
“I’m just glad my wife is fine,” he said.
