Magic Johnson‘s son, EJ, looks a like a new man after dropping more than 200 pounds. Not only did EJ lose weight but he also lost his feminine side.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in October, the once morbidly obese reality TV star revealed he lost 50 pounds after undergoing weight loss surgery in August.
Page Six incorrectly stated that doctors removed 80% of EJ’s stomach during the surgery.
EJ either underwent gastric band surgery or sleeve gastrectomy surgery.
During gastric band surgery a band restricts how much food can enter the stomach. In sleeve gastrectomy surgery the doctor staples the stomach to form a small pouch which restricts how much food the patient can eat at one time. At some point, once the desired weight is achieved, doctors reverse the operation.
EJ is so happy with the results of the surgery that he regularly updates his social media pages.
“He’s been on a journey, and has lost more than 60 pounds thus far,” a source told Page Six. “He’s looking and feeling great.”

he looks nice, but of course, who wouldn’t after dropping 50+ lbs. No shade, good for EJ. Now if we can get him to “lose” the purses, we’re in business. Ironically, I’d watch him on tv before watching ATL’s own Derek J and Lawrence. Lawrence is funny, but I can not get past their makeup and hooves stuffed inside pumps.

She was big and bad until Nene walked up.And while Nene is a “rich bish” now and TEAM TOO MUCH at times she has a point. If we squashed it before the reunion why wait to bring it up now? Especially if you have nothing new to add??? she has stuff from 2 seasons ago that she didn’t address because she felt she couldn’t address it and now she wants to??? Not to be facetious or anything and I may be a little late, but I wanted to clarify and maybe correct the above comments in your blog… and because I am late, it may not even be noticed, so I am going to email this reply as well to your email.
You are not fully describing a sleeve gastrectomy (which is also not correlating with EJs story) correctly . Page Six was not incorrect in stating 80% of his stomach was removed……if in fact he underwent the vertical sleeve gastrectomy surgery. If he did undergo VSG, the surgeon does actually remove 75 to 85% of the stomach-fact, and this is not reversible.
With the VSG, the surgeon does not just staple the stomach alone to leave the banana pouch with unused portion of the muscle intact as well. The big and most important part of the process includes the removal of the majority of the stomach; for studies, observation etc. The remaining muscle shaped like the banana is needed and left in the body for digestion and is in fact stapled for a restricted diet.
Outside of the banding you’ve mentioned, which is the Lap band or Realize Band which are 1 of 2 of the reversible procedures, there are 2 more additional successful and approved weight loss surgeries, which are the Gastric Bypass-the 2nd reversible procedure, and the Roux-en-Y or (RYGB) gastric bypass.
The RYGB which sounds more like what you are describing EJ as having; can be reversed but not suggested because is a very dangerous and serious operation which is why surgeons rule out this procedure as being reversible. There are more cons than pros with reversals here.
Not that anyone cares too much about EJ, but the key here is finding out what surgery he actually had than blogging or reporting 1/2 facts or statements with holes, because people (myself included) actually find your site informative when there is more to it that just writing gossip for the day.
I’ve also realize you have the nursing in your background etc; I’m just making sure people are aware of the 4 distinct weight loss surgeries and the truth about these procedures, as I am a well informed VSG patient myself and I’ve had 80% of my stomach removed left with a non reversible banana pouch.
As a patient in the state where I presently reside, you cannot get any weight loss surgeries unless you are educated and well-informed with maximum understanding of what you are about to undergo. It is encouraged, even among your family members to attend every class; psyche evaluation; nutrition session; and seminar. I also follow many known weight loss patients besides EJ…Rosie..etc. I hope this clears up any misunderstandings/misconceptions or caused any friction for clarification.
