Imagine if President Obama passionately embraced Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, during a NFL game? The backlash to Obama’s hug would register a 10 on the Richter scale.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was caught hugging Jones in his luxury skybox after a Cowboys win in the 1st round of the NFL playoffs on Sunday. The online backlash was swift.
Christie hopes to be the next president of these United States. But judging from the intense criticism on Twitter.com, Christie’s enthusiastic hug may have sent his presidential hopes back to the dark ages.
During a call-in to WFAN’s “Boomer & Carlton” radio show, Christie said the online attacks didn’t bother him.
“I would take all the abuse that I’m taking from some of these folks in return for Cowboys playoff wins,” he said Monday morning. Christie defended his loyalty to the team, saying “you are who you are as a fan.”
Christie is an unrepentant Dallas Cowboys fan. And if he is elected president, Jerry Jones will be probably appointed to a cabinet position in Christie’s administration.
