The health status of a 43-year-old Jonesboro real estate agent who was shot by Clayton County’s Sheriff is improving, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Gwenevere McCord’s father, Ernest McCord, told the AJC his daughter is “making headway” one week after she was shot in the abdomen by Victor Hill.

McCord said doctors will close up Gwenevere’s abdominal wound today, and wean her off the ventilator on Tuesday. Abdominal wounds are sometimes left open due to the possibility of infection.

Investigators are anxious to hear what happened on May 3 when Hill shot Gwenevere as they toured a Lawrenceville home that was listed for sale. Gwenevere has been unable to speak due to the ventilator tube in her throat.

Gwenevere’s father doesn’t believe foul play was involved, despite the fact that Hill has refused to give any statement to investigators.

“We keep calling it a victory day by day,” said McCord, who regards Hill as a family friend.

“(Doctors) will be closing her up today and if there’s no complications, they’ll be able to take her off the ventilator Tuesday.”

In a 911 call on May 3, Hill said he accidentally shot Gwenevere while practicing some sort of police training exercise inside the listed property.

Hill was arrested last week and released on a misdemeanor charge. He has refused to step down as sheriff.

McCord said he is not angry at Hill. A family friend told another media outlet that Hill and Gwenevere were romantically involved.

Neither Gwenevere or Hill are married.
