The fallout continues for TLC’s wildly popular reality TV series ’19 Kids and Counting’. TLC was forced to suspend the series after eldest son Josh Duggar (circled) admitted he molested four of his sisters and another girl for years.
From Cosmopolitan:
General Mills, one of the shows biggest supporters, pulled its advertising immediately after news broke. On Tuesday, Payless ShoeSource and Choice Hotels also severed its marketing ties to the show as well.
Payless also responded on Twitter, explaining their choice to remove advertising as well. “”Our ads ran during this show as part of a larger buy with TLC,” the company said. “We are taking steps to have them removed from future episodes.”
Another big advertiser, Walgreens, also responded, telling Facebook followers it would also drop the show.
The corporate sponsors pulling their ads could be seen as a CYA PR move. Especially since the show is already suspended. But there’s nothing wrong with a little free press.
