A brawny female beat, then taunted champion boxer Floyd Mayweather during the ESPY Awards pre-show Wednesday night.
Mixed martial artist champion Rhonda Rousey didn’t actually beat Mayweather physically (we know that’s impossible); the 28-year-old MMA fighter took home the Best Fighter award in a category usually won by Mayweather.
After receiving her trophy, Rousey looked at the camera and spoke to Mayweather directly: “I wonder how Floyd feels being beat by a woman for once,” she said. “I’d like to see him pretend to not know who I am now.”
Not that Mayweather cares about winning an ESPY award.
Unlike other legitimate awards, the ESPYs are not chosen by public vote or even by a panel of the candidate’s peers.
The ESPY Awards are chosen by the show’s producers who don’t consider any particular achievement or skill. In other words, it’s a popularity show.
That’s why Bruce Jenner got the Arthur Ashe Courage Award instead of an athlete who is more deserving.
Jenner, who killed a woman in a vehicular crash in February, should not even be mentioned in the same breath as Ashe, who died of AIDS he contracted from a blood transfusion.
Jenner is a narcissistic cross-dresser who put on a dress and makeup for fame and money. There is no courage in selfish pursuits.
The ESPYs is a bogus, meaningless awards show that even ESPN didn’t want on its network.
