Las Vegas police say a woman drove a car onto a crowded sidewalk and plowed into tourists on the famous Las Vegas strip.
Lakeisha N. Holloway, 24, is charged with murder with the use of a deadly weapon in what police say was a deliberate assault.
A 32-year-old woman died in the crash and dozens more were injured, including an 11-year-old child who was dragged behind the woman’s car when she fled the scene.
35 people suffered injuries in the crash with at least 6 people listed in critical condition.
Holloway, who had a toddler with her in the car, reportedly lived in her Oldsmobile in the Las Vegas area for a week before she drove into a crowd of pedestrians on Sunday.
The carnage and injured victims covered several city blocks, according to police.
A police spokesperson said investigators are not ruling out an act of terrorism because Holloway was coherent and alert when she was arrested.
Police say Holloway was “stoic” and not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Some witnesses attempted a citizen’s arrest on Holloway by pounding on her windows when her car came to a stop. But they couldn’t access the vehicle before she drove off again. A police officer who was eating dinner at a restaurant took Holloway into custody moments after the crash.
Police say Holloway’s car “entered the sidewalk, exited the sidewalk and reentered the sidewalk” near Bally’s Hotel on the strip.
Holloway reportedly had a “dissociation” with her baby’s daddy in Dallas before she arrived in Las Vegas.
Holloway’s toddler is in the custody of child protection services.
She faces a court hearing on Tuesday or Wednesday.
